The Anthony Gose thread
Well, I guess we need one of these now.
Here are his stats.
Met, Shad, please convince me that this guy isn't DeWayne Wise or Carlos Gomez.

Re: The Anthony Gose thread
Well, he's in high-A at 19 (soon to be 20) and has an OPS above .700, so there's that. And he has a high line drive rate, which is good. And he has great range in center field, which is always a bonus.
But he puts the ball on the ground 60% of the time, has no strike zone control, below-average patience, no power (it could develop, but he so rarely puts the ball in the air that it seems unlikely), takes poor routes to the ball, and gets thrown out trying to steal at a comical rate.
I'm guessing that he spends at least four more years in the minors, progressing in fits and starts, and ends up either as a fourth outfielder or getting taken in the Rule V draft some time down the road as a reclamation project.

no offense, but AA prolly knows more about this than any of us, and until then we can say how this is gonna turn out. gose might get flipped for someone else in another deal. plus hes 19/20 years old, theres still room for improvement. wallace is 24 and doesn't have GREAT numbers in AAA.

Kenny Wilson clone with better defense. Bat hasn't seem to show progression in 2 years already.

all that based off of notoriously unreliable minor league batted ball rates?

I thought the plan was to "contend" for a playoff berth at the start of the 2011 or 2012 season? If so, wouldn't Wallace fit that timeline, and not Gose (who may spend the next 3+ years in the minors)?

who said that? we are rebuilding doesn't take 1 year. this the american league EAST, we gotta compete with three 90+ win teams every year. i think its better to reup on prospects and hope we can end up like the rays in the long run, while the sox, and rays go down, cuz the yanks we know will continue to buy players and always be there.

Notoriously unreliable batted ball rates + scouting video that shows his swing to be an absolute mess (watch this from last year...nothing is working in unison), his raw numbers, and the fact that every scouting report I've read raves about his ceiling while simultaneously cautioning that he's unlikely to reach it. He could end up being better, certainly...it's just that the odds of him doing so aren't great.

Not only is that not the plan, but how is a rookie 1B going to help you contend? Wallace was never a guy who was going to come up and then provide an instant elite bat.

IMO if the prognosis ever gets this bad he will be converted back into a pitcher. LHP with ~95mph heat and a power curveball off the mound is what he showed in HS.
