Wait for mid-season deadline???

Is anyone else more for waiting until the mid-season deadline to trade our expirings? I think that they would have a little more value then and we could possibly get more back. Also, I would really like to see what Lance Stephenson is capable at the PG position before we swing a deal for our "PG of the future." Who knows, maybe he turns out to be just that. I personally don't think we can get any big name to sign here, so I think it's in our best interest to trade our expiring players for players with longer contracts but still under the age 25 and with potential and talent. I can't wait for this season to begin because I really want to see how our rookies perform and I think we will know exactly the direction we're headed (either trades or free agency) for next offseason.

We won't make a trade any sooner, so waiting for the deadline is really the only option.

I am with you but:
Even if Lance works out it's clear that a 6'5"rookie point could use some help. I'd like a smaller pass first defensive guy with some experience to help. Hopefully someone who wouldn't cost us more than we'd want to pay for a fringe starter. Conely or Maynor I'm thinking, Maybe Collison. Now would be a good time for that.

I despise no D playing guys and we have too many. If we have to wait till deadline to get value that's ok but I want to play the young guys and I'd be open to trades from now on.

Certain positions seem to have a jam. To play the young guys we need to lose a 2 and a 4-5.

Wrong, he is one of the best PG we've had.
I think you meant he plays in by far the worst system we have had in a long, long time.

What has he done that makes him so good? He is always either hurt or doing nothing. I agree, JOB and his game plan blows but for now, we gotta find something to work in his system and TJ doesnt

You're gonna hate Lance Stephenson. Him and TJ's game are nearly identical. TJ is fast, Lance is strong. The only real differences in their games.

Nothin has ever worked in O'Brien's system. TJ won't if nuthin else will.

That won't be hard to do. Even with an expiring contract TJ's value appears to be negative.

I'd like to wait but I think we need another point guard even if it is Diener quality. if we can make it to next season with all our expirings, we could be in the Melo/CP3 hunt. I'd think the pair of Danny and Roy would compete with Stoudamire as attractions.

WHAT THE **** LMAO? One of them is like 5'10 the other is 6'5. Strength vs speed, thats like saying Shaq and Jonathan Bender's games were nearly identical, except one was quick the other was strong, except the Shaq-JB comparison would be more accurate because they are at least close in height, not 7 inches apart. :lol:

Just because one is taller don't mean they game ain't similar. Both break players down off the dribble drive to the rim. Neither can really shoot well from the 3. Watch them actually play instead of comparin they height and weight.

Hi there,

Longtime pacersfan (and reader of this board but first post) from holland here.

The team is in a situation where waiting for the right opportunity is the best thing they can do.
They shouldn't make a trade now just to upgrade the pg position and give up valuable assets.
We have all the assets to become a contender in the near future. We have expiring big contracts and capspace next season, plus we have some good young players. Some of them starters for the future others just role players who can fill importants roles.

If we wait and do nothing right now, the worst thing that can happen is that we have a bad season, what would give us a good draftpick, and thus another youg and talented player for the future.

The capspace we have next season will never bring us big names by free agency, so good players will have to come through trades and we have all the tools in here to make them when the trade deadline comes closer and closer.

Foster will have to be traded at the deadline, considering I think his real value is to a contender needing veteran leadership. He'll need to prove that he is healthy again and ready to play.

Ford/MDJ are better off going to a team in return for a long term contract or unwanted contract or a team looking for immediate cap space.... honestly they could be traded immediately.

Murph.... I really doubt we trade him. Possibly at the deadline if we are way out of contention for the 8th spot.

Idk, just my guess.

I'd be ok with sending him to the Spurs or something near the deadline if we were faltering and he quietly wanted a chance at a championship, even if it meant nothing in return.

He's earned that. He's always been a good soldier. He's played hard and well, and NEVER brought shame onto the franchise, either in negotiations, private life, or on the court or in effort.

Unfortunately for the Pacers expiring contracts just won't have the same value this season as in the past. There are a number of teams far under the cap(Minn, NJ, NY, Clips) or holding big TPE's(Tor, Cle) that can offer immediate salary relief. Not to mention there will be fewer teams looking to dump contracts for 2011 FA. I think this is the reason an expiring such as Ford is not really worth much. Dun or Foster however should have value at the deadline if they prove themselves on the court.
