Trade Deadline Discussion

Post#1 » by SportsWorld » Fri Jul 30, 2010 1:54 pm

Sounds like the Cubs are in talks with the Dodgers for sending them Ryan Theriot and Ted LIlly. Ken Rosenthal says the hold-up is how much money the Cubs are willing to pay.

tim kurkjian was just on waddle and silvy and said he doesnt expect us to get much for lilly, on a contender hes a 4th or 5th starter.

Kurkjian does not make much sense. Are Dodgers really counting on Vincente Padilla and Kuroda to be better than Lilly? Hopefully Theriot does get sent to LA, though. Let's hope somehow we get Withrow, Ethan Martin, Lambo (value could be down substantially after suspension) or even Dee Gordon? :D

Trade everybody away, then resign everybody for next year. Don't forget the no-trade clauses.

Ok seriously, I'd like to see some real prospects. Bring in a manger for the long haul. I'd like a fierce and feisty Sandberg, but I know we'd be getting Mr. nice guy Sandberg, which I don't think is the right demeanor for this ball club and this market.

I wish we could trade more guys than just Lilly and Theriot, but that seems like that is all that will happen. I would like to see Silva go but I doubt anyone wants him. I wish Lee would waive the NTC. I heard earlier in the week that Kosuke was garnering some mild interest and that would be great. lastly, I wouldn't mind if Big Z, Aram(even though I love him ) and Soriano go but those are all pipe dreams.

Looks like Lilly deal is close for Dodgers. Possibly both Theriot and DeWitt from Dodgers were involved as both were pulled decently early enough in games. Theriot for Kelly Johnson is a possibility. That would be a good deal, imo. Kelly Johnson's a much better hitter than Theriot and a good stopgap for Hak Ju Lee.

Kosuke Padres? And while getting rid of Soriano for pure money purposes or clearing OF for prospects might sound nice, on principle since he's had a decent season and seems to be one of the few players on this team who actually cares and works hard, I wouldn't want to.

Actually I would rather just say who I would want to keep for the future and everyone else can go...

Untouchables: Colvin, Castro, Cashner, Soto, Marmol, Marshal(maybe).

Others I would keep: Dempster, Wells, Gorzelany.

On the fence" Byrd( He's been good but could cockblock Jackson plus his value may never be higher.)

Then of course there's Soriano and Z who definitely wont be traded anytime soon because of their contracts, so I would just hope they can get back to or continue(in Soriano's case) playing well.

That team could still have a solid base and then hopefully a few more prospects become good/great and once we've gotten decent/good again and free;d up some $$, we fill out the team some top level FA's.

That would be awesome but why would they trade him for Theriot? Salary constraints? If so, aren't we trying to shed future salary as well?

Cubs deal to D-back in their hands now. Theriot and Russell for kelly Johnson who strikes out way too much for leadoff man. Does have 17HRs

Blegh.

As if our current leadoff hitter doesn't strike out a lot. Colvin doesn't really make much of any sense leading off. Kelly Johnson is a good stopgap who is quite affordable, having a good year at the plate and why don't we lead off Castro? In other news, CY Westbrook anyone?? I would love trading Lilly to Reds for good prospects just to screw the Cards.

This hasn't been posted yet but Cubs rejected trade of Olly Perez and Castillo for Big Z. This is little surprise to me, Mets have wanted to swap bad contracts for a while and if Z gets dealt, expect to see them in the mix.

George Offman is saying the Cubs might get John Ely back in a deal? That would be an absolute steal.
