malware on the forum?

Post#1 » by turnbuckle » Sat Jul 31, 2010 4:15 am

I just received this message while on this board...

The website at forums.realgm.com contains elements from the site , which appears to host malware – software that can hurt your computer or otherwise operate without your consent. Just visiting a site that contains malware can infect your computer.
For detailed information about the problems with these elements, visit the Google Safe Browsing diagnostic page for iconsiconator.com

From what I've read up on since getting the message ...someone's avatar on here is being hosted by iconator, and is causing the problem. That person's avatar should be modified/removed.

I thought it was the ads on the page.

Well, then it changes.

Maybe it is...but judging from what I read on this board it could be someone's avatar

Does anyone else get those pop up ads like on the bottom right corner of the computer screen? I get that when I log on to realgm for some reason. Does anyone know why?

it was changed on wikipedia recently

Using wikipedia as a solid source is a bad idea. Malware stands for malicious software. That what a trojan horse virus is

I got that too today when I tried to go to a certain page of a thread. All the other pages were fine, but that message popped up just for that 1 page in the thread.

Me too. I guess whoever has the infected avatar is on the page that earns the warning. If I get it again I'll list the users on the warned page, by cross-referencing a few warned pages we should be able to figure out who it is.

This is a harmless problem, at least when on RealGM. It is prompted by a user having an avatar hosted on a site that has been known to host potentially malicious software.

When this appears, all we need is the url of the page and the url that Chrome shows. We can then figure out the user and then delete their avatar.

My bit defender just blocked some malware and a few viruses. It was on the raptors forum. The post was called "DD reps T.Dot, says Toronto is a top 5 city for NBA players" created by dagger. I can't link the page cause i don't want to get infected again. Not sure which poster caused the malware but just to let you know. I just fixed my comp too.
