Random Camp Thoughts
Camps start this week but some things have gone down that are worth mentioning/discussion...
--Both Ravens rookies that they expect to actually use are in trouble. Sergio Kindle is still hospitalized with a head injury suffered when he fell down two flights of steps. I've heard he has narcolepsy and fell asleep, I've heard he was drunk, doesn't matter for football purposes. He fell because his knee is thisclose to being shot already, and now he's probably hitting the PUP for this head injury. Oh, and to nobody's real surprise Terrence Cody showed up weighing 395 pounds and failed his conditioning test. I'm telling you all right now I am not buying all the Ravens hype. They're good, but they're very vulnerable defensively.
--TO to Cincy is a stroke of brilliance. Here's how I think it plays out--TO and Ocho battle for spotlight, but both guys know that winning and results will earn it, not antics. They push each other to be even better and the Bengals pass offense becomes legit again. With their defense, that's more than enough to keep them in the playoffs...if Ced Benson can come even close to his 2009.
--Sam Bradford will sign later this week. Pay attention to the years and incentives and not the guaranteed $$ (likely $55M). If there are voidable years and lots of performance-based incentives, that's a bad sign for labor peace. He's the last of the giant rookie contracts. Once he signs McClain and Berry should sign deals quickly. Most likely top 20 draftees for holdouts: Ndamukong Suh and Kareem Jackson, both because they know their teams desperately need them and the players want to use that leverage against the teams.
--Tim Tebow has a very good chance of winning the starting job in Denver by the end of August, and Brady Quinn might not even make the team. That's straight from a Denver coach.
--Jimmy Clausen will sign his deal today, which gives him a legit chance to win the starting job in CAR. I don't think he'll start the season, but if you read my Panthers preview on the main page you know I think he'll be starting sooner than later. They are my surprise positive team in the NFC this year, and I do think that the NFC South could have 3 playoff teams.

He has either taken huge steps since last season, or we are in some real trouble.

I'm worried the bengals might crumble with all the expectations they have on them now. In the past they usually regressed after taking steps in the right direction. I think they are a better team than last year, but it would be tough to do what we did in the division last year. Hopefully I'm wrong and there is lots of offensive and defensive success this season!

Re: Random Camp Thoughts
What is up with Pat White no showing to camp? Can we assume he's going to be released?
Also, I thought you would enjoy this one Jeff:
Maybin and an offensive lineman did the usual camp grappling, and got back to work. But Bills guard Eric Wood, a fellow 2009 first-rounder, remained unhappy a few snaps later.
"Give back some of that money you ain't [expletive] earned!" Wood screamed at Maybin.

Report: Pat White could be done for season

What a waste of a pick!
According to a league source, the Dolphins backup quarterback could miss the entire regular season with a non-football related issue that is described as serious.

I'll see some people this week and find out more about White. I have a good idea but I don't want to be wrong about it.

Just curious Icness, how do you think Matt Leinart fares this season?

Re: Random Camp Thoughts
I agree with you on your take of the AFC North teams. I think the Ravens defense seems very vulnerable and I think the Bengals might have a better defense this year. Too many injuries for the Ravens. And with the new weapons Palmer has in TO, Bryant, and Gresham their passing game better be improved.

I like the Ravens, and as a Boise State Alum I was really hoping they would take Kyle Wilson. They could have used the help at CB, even before the injury to Foxworth. They got good value trading down, but I'm not sure it was really worth it taking 2 risky guys.

I talked to someone at the Texans today and they got the impression that Schobel doesn't really want to play when they met with him. He could just be angling for greener pastures, but too many people close to him are saying they think he's done. He is most certainly not a 3-4 OLB either, so even if he does join the Pats I would keep expectations low. Lower than Derrick Burgess last year for sure.

I think he'll put up eerily similar numbers to Mark Sanchez. How's that

Icness,
Rank these players on who will miss the most games.
Bob Sanders, Westbrook, Polamalu, Urlacher, Reggie Bush

I don't think Bob Sanders ever plays again, and if he does he's insane. Westbrook is a safe bet to miss at least half the season, but it might be half a game here, a quarter there even though he could play in like 13 games.
I would rate Urlacher next because he's older and still hits with his head down even though he's got neck problems. Polamalu would come next. I don't buy the book that Reggie Bush is fragile, plus he's not a full-time player.

Re: Random Camp Thoughts
Ic, can you give me any intel on the Giants' Front 7? I haven't heard jack squat about Pierre-Paul since he signed his deal and all the talk about Osi being a bench role player has me a bit worried about the cohesiveness of this defense.

Re: Random Camp Thoughts
Did a little digging for you my friend! Some quotes from text exchanges with a G-Men source:
Osi gets it. Hip comes and goes. Hoping Kiwi (Kiwanuka) sticks at OLB, not gonna happen.
JPP very fast but easy block. Very straight, no counters (countermoves). Worse than we thought.
Star of camp is Bear Pascoe, could start over Boss. Best blocking TE here in a long time.
Bomar ahead of Sorgi
Joseph (Linval) earning more 1st team reps

What I've heard is that he wants to skip training camp, be promised either a starting spot or a lot of minutes and will ask for at least $4 million, otherwise, he's retiring.
