Replaces Curtis on the bench... good defensive RF, can fill in a pinch at LF while Gardy moves to CF.
Good Hinske type move.

I hope he plays today so I can get a good look at him.

Eh...Kearns isn't very good but he's a mild upgrade on Curtis and he keeps Thames from seeing the OF ever again. Nothing to get excited about but it's an ok move.

the improvement in defense + batting makes Kearns a near 1 win transaction. You take what you can get.

I don't know if he'll get enough playing time to be a full 1 win upgrade, but considering what's going back the other way, I'm not complaining. I think the most important part of the deal is the fact that we won't have to watch Thames play "defense" again.

Re: Austin Kearns to Yanks
He's a huge upgrade to their bench. He doesn't hit lefties well, but he's a quality player and pinch hitter off the bench.
100 PA (83 AB) with RISP: .301 average, .400 OBP, 36 RBI's
Innings 7-9: 108 PA (92 AB)- .326 average, .417 OBP, 18 RBI's
He hits much better away (.296 BA, .371 OBP, .830 OPS) then he did at Progessive Field (.246 BA, .335 OBP, .709 OPS) so his numbers as a whole will probably improve going to the Yankees (even if he's playing less).

If Granderson is not careful, Kearns takes over LF and Brett in center could become more commonplace.

If Granderson is not careful? Yankees are not going to have Granderson ride the pine after trading AJax for him. Plus Granderson has improved 10 fold recently. Plus the Yankees have the DH spot opened up, especially with ARod on the DL.
Kearns remind me of Chad Curtis 2.0. Some pop in the bat, can hit a little and field. 4th outfielder.

Improved 10 fold? C'mon Granderson showed up against his former team the Tigers but guess what? No one is talking about his bat right now are they?
