Sounds like they're middle of the road guys. That's why I'm not really pleased with the return. Both guys look just average.

DeWitt, 25 next month, is having a better season than Theriot at .270/.352/.371. He's under team control through 2014, so the Cubs acquired a long-term asset for second base. Baseball Prospectus' Kevin Goldstein calls his the "prettiest swing you'll see never turned into results," calling DeWitt a "constant source of disappointment" for the Dodgers.
Wallach, son of former big leaguer Tim, was a third-round pick of the Dodgers last year. Baseball America ranked him 20th among Dodgers prospects heading into the season, saying he could blossom into a No. 3 in time. He's currently in Low A. Smit, a reliever, spent most of this year in High A ball where he posted a 2.49 ERA, 8.2 K/9, and 1.8 BB/9 in 50.6 innings. He's now in Double A.
That makes me feel more optimistic about this.

How much you wanna bet that Theriot tries to cozy up to Manny in Dodger clubhouse as two respective power hitters?

Terrible return for Lilly IMO. Well, let the Castro and DeWitt decade begin!

maybe this is what dewitt needed to get his career on track, obviously he was a big time prospect.
my question is how long do we wanna wait on lee at second?

Re: Done Deal: Theriot and Lilly to Dodgers for DeWitt/Prospects
Dodgers fans HATE this deal, which makes me feel better.
Wallach is probably around 11-15 in our prospect rankings now and DeWitt isn't even arbitration eligible yet. I'm starting to warm up to the move. Considering how little teams got back for Oswalt and Haren, this return for 3 months of Lilly and Theriot (barely a bench player and out of arbitration) is pretty good.

Ya I agree DeWitt was great prospect with high potential. Then he came into the league, hit well for a few weeks and since then he's been a disappointment. I remember him was a 3rd baseman with 2nd base skills, maybe more time at second he'll be more comfortable.

I'm also fairly happy about this move. Dewitt is an improvement over Theriot and you couldn't expect to get much for Lilly anyways.

Re: Done Deal: Theriot and Lilly to Dodgers for DeWitt/Prospects
Pretty good return for a rental of three months. DeWitt is a cheap starter at 2B for at least three more years and gives the Cubs a left handed bottom of the order bat OR he can bat 2nd
Potential 2011 Lineup
Castro-SS
DeWitt-2B
Byrd-CF
Dunn-1B
Ramirez-3B
Soriano-LF
Colvin-RF
Soto-C
Not a horrid lineup.

fat boy hendry had to ask for Gred Maddux's opinion on blake dewitt before pulling the plug.. i guess he needs more assistance now because he can't make decisions on his own.
