Never actually shaves. Just switches his beard to "Invisibility Mode". #JoseBautistaFacts

Jose Bautista hits home runs because if he's stuck on base for too long, his beard will grow enough to become self-aware. #JoseBautistaFacts

Jose Bautista thinks Domonic Brown is one of his batboys #JoseBautistaFacts

Frank Thomas swung an iron bar in the on deck circle. Jose Bautista uses a T-Rex thigh bone. He killed it bare handed. #JoseBautistaFacts

On top of the MLB leading 30 HRs - JoBau's beard growth speed is an 80 on the scouting scale #JoseBautistaFacts

Is having a career year at 29 because he wanted to give Barry Bonds a reasonable head start. #JoseBautistaFacts

Yeah, that won't happen. Would have to involve Posey and one of Bumgarner or Wheeler at the minimum, although I find myself getting more and more excited about Brandon Belt.

This is a ludicrous statement. We would be the ones having to significantly sweeten the pot in a trade for Buster Posey revolving around Bautista. The guy is having an amazing year, no doubt - but so is Posey - difference is, one is approaching 30 and is, by all regards, a utility player having an outlier season - the other is a kid drafted 2 years ago who has already FORCED his way into the big leagues and is coming off a 20 game hit streak.

The more i write this out, the more ridiculous I realize your statement was. I feel like I may be walking into one right here - but if you were serious... oy.

Heh, to build on this, we'd probably have to sweeten the pot with Marcum plus Snider. Posey is pretty much untouchable.

Yogi, do you by chance know a link to where you might have heard this? The reason I ask is because I brought this up as well here: (viewtopic.php?f=123&t=1042131#p24569124), but I had no source.. I just remembered reading this somewhere during the off-season

Does he have any offer that will blow us away? I really want him to stay. Damn guy hit a grand slam the only time I watched the game live this season.

Do you guys really believe he's not having a fluke season? I don't want to make a costly mistake after a career season (Vernon Wells).

I seem to remember him saying that as well -- something to the affect of 2012 would be the time to compete for a playoff spot -- but don't have a link either.

He may never hit this well again at the trade deadline again (in fact, that's more than likely), but his power and BB rate isn't a fluke.

The thing is, JB is essentially creeping into the MVP type discussions, and yet, you are not going to get anywhere near that for him as he hasn't put up these kind of numbers on a consistent basis. So even if you trade him, it would be at a discount to his value, especially if you consider this not to be a fluke and that JB has in fact had a breakout year and will be a consistent run producer going forward.

Knowing what AA would be asking, it's too risky for another GM to ante up IMO. It would certainly take some balls! To me it makes more sense to keep him and look to this type of productivity next year and beyond. Some guys just blossom late.

And even when his HR/FB regresses next year, he will still be a 25 HR hitter, meaning he will still have trade value next July. Maybe even more than now because 1) he'll have a longer track record and less risk for teams and 2) extra value from his compensation status.

I'm really glad that we didn't trade him. I really like his defense, offensive ability & locker room presence. To me he's a guy that you build around.
