I'll say it right now, if we meet the Lakers in the playoffs and Yao is around we are taking them down. I have never been more certain of ANYTHING in my life.

It's all one big 'what if', for now. I wouldn't guarantee anything, on either side.

BUT...

The Lakers don't have anybody to guard Brooks. He'll get wherever he wants, whenever he wants. And the Lakers have stayed remarkably free of injuries for the last few years. Except for Bynum, it's been an incredible run of lucky health. (You have to be lucky and good to win rings, after all.)

All I'm saying is the law of averages will not be denied. You might want to remember that before you go around rolling your eyes.

i prefer to see ariza leading the second unit, i dont want to see a ballhog contest between martin and him, battier starter looks right.

+1

The more I watched Ariza last year, the more often the label "Practice Player" popped in my head. You know that guy? Every team has one. Practice Player lights it up when it's just his boys and the coaches. So they put him in the starting lineup, with a prominent role. Then comes game night. He freezes - gets what medical doctors call "Booty Lock".

So you let Practice Player hide on the bench, sneak him out there with some cover, and he relaxes.

Practice Player is allergic to spotlights.

??? ariza had to be a ballhog until the trade. he showed how much more efficient he is when he doesnt carry the scoring load. and even then he did a decent job, near 20/5/5 numbers w/ stls and 3's. w/ a healthy roster he do a lot better than that 30fg% crap

We look great on paper. each starter on our lineup is a "top player" or one of the better player at their position.

Brooks - MIP last season. a lot depends on his continued improvement. as a decision maker he still has ways to go but his 3 shooting is deadly, leading the league last season in 3 pointers made. Many will put other point guard ahead of brooks but i think he is somewhere in the top 15, no lower.

Martin - easily a top 10 shooting guards in the league. he isn't on the level as that of kobe and wade he is a pure scorer. he gets on the court, he is ready and looking to score. the downside, he is not a solid defender and other than scoring there isn't much to his game. but still a top 10 sg.

battier - as we know is one of the best wing defender in the game. can't win a ring without one and whos better than battier

scola - hard to rank PF because the position is so versatile but scola will start at the 4 on most teams in the nba. he can post up, rebound, play defense, hustle, and hes got a sweet jumper.

Yao - and of course the big question mark. if healthy Yao is easily the best center offensively.

our bench i think will be solid. we have some developing big men with patterson and hill but lowry and buddinger will lead the bench.

on paper we look like we can be dangerous. it's all a matter of things falling together in place.

If we stay healthy with that lineup I think we can beat the Lakers and it shouldn't be a surprise. I see something developing with this team that can be very special if Yao can keep from breaking down for once. I think a lot of our fans are also going to be caught off guard at just how good Kevin Martin really is after they get to see him play fully healthy. He is a lot better than what he's shown so far in Houston (he's busting his azz training down in Florida this summer to prove it too). I'm a diehard Rocket, but I've been following this kid his entire career in Sac and he was an allstar trapped in a small market. I expect him to have an eye opening season this year.
