The KG and Lebron situations should never be compared in any way. they are completely different.

Then let's see if Minnesotans are exceptionally nice (they're really not, but it's a solid selling point for the state so I won't complain)

Mauer is (or would have been) definitely as close to apples to apples as it gets. Two exceptional talents who ended up playing for their hometown teams, both of which happen to be in fairly tortured sports cities, leave to join a super team for less money in order to have a better shot at a title.

There would have been plenty of people burning Mauer jerseys and booing him when he came back to town (particularly after he won his first championship). Especially if Mauer ended up getting Jeter style hype. There would be a ton of bitterness towards him.

A lot of Minnesota fans still get upset when Gugliotta is brought up, just think of what would have happened here had he been a legit star

As for the Mauer situation, I very well could see him going somewhere else, but it won't be for less money (if he does that, Twins fans would massacre him). If the Twins offered him a deal like 18 million a year, he could easily force the Yankees or someone to go higher then that

???

Do you mean the Yankees will offer him more than that in 2020?

my bad, I don't pay much attention to the Twins anymore; I was never much of a baseball fan and I'm too busy in the summer to follow them closely

But hypothetically had Mauer hit the open market, someone could easily have offered him more money... had he taken less money to play elsewhere, then twins fans would treat him just as harshly as Cavs fans are treating Lebron.

Someone brought it up before, but Chuck Knoblach had beer bottles thrown at him when he returned to the dome in a Yankees uniform. There's the "Minnesota Nice" for ya.

And in retaliation Knoblauch started gunning baseballs into the stands at every stadium in the league.
Granted he was trying to hit the first basemen, but I think his point was made
