Matt Janning to attend training camp with the Suns

Post#1 » by mnWI » Sun Aug 1, 2010 3:46 pm

Talked to Matt for a minute last night and he told me he would be going to training camp with the Suns. I've known him for a while, and got to see him at both summer leagues this year. He's a great kid and I really hope he can make an impression on the Suns and stick around.

Also, I get the impression a lot of people on this board wanted to keep Scottie Reynolds, but he has decided to sign overseas and will be playing in Italy this season.

Sucks the Suns couldn't keep Reynolds. He looked like the best player on the SL team.

Actually the LegaDue italian is the most competitive 2nd division in Europe (better than the spanish). I'm sure he received an offer that can not be refused, hope he'll do great there it's a tough challenge. Too bad suns didn't offer him something, I really liked him in summer league, great talent and vision. But Matt Janning is intriguing too, he played well too in SL.

Thought he had a few offers from other teams, wonder if he got a promise from the Suns that they would sign him?

I don't understand if your Scottie Reynolds why you don't just wait it out. I mean, c'mon. Just play training camp. See what you can do. Don't just quit on it. Anyways, sweet, I liked Janning, and EVERY ANNOUNCER EVER does too. Good lord. Thats all the ever talked about.

Disappointing to see Scottie go. I wonder what Janning can offer to this team.

Coro is reporting that it might be Dowdell who might be getting the training camp invite.

I prefer Janning to Dowdell. Dowdell looked clueless when playing PG in the summer league, he was trying to be a one man show out there.

I'd rather bring in a combo guard since they obviously want a 3rd string PG but we're also quite thin at the 2 spot.

Hedo and Studs can play the #2.

Childress certainly can. He has size, handles, foot speed, explosiveness and a 3 point shot. What prevents him from playing the 2? He may be a more natural slasher than spot-up guy, but I haven't seen anything from Chill that would make him difficult to play as a 2. Hedo can play the 2 offensively, but defensively doesn't have the footspeed. Duds could do it, but might also be on the bubble with foot speed in covering 2's all the time, though he has covered Kobe quitea bit.

With all of that said the only hole I see in the Suns makeup is Low-post offense and front-court proven rebounding (Lawal may cover this if he has PT)

Yes, yes, yes, yes, and no. He does not have a 3 point shot. Last 2 years in Europe he shot in the low 30%. That's why he can't play 2 for the Suns. It would be like Marion playing 2. Excellent slasher and mid-range game, absolutely cringe worthy when shooting 3s. And his form is about as ugly.

I don't have to worry about it though, his mid-range game is phenomenal and so is his shot selection. He won't be taking many 3s since he will probably have 2 of Frye, Hedo, Rich on the floor with him at any given time.
