He gave Nnamdi Asomugha a ridiculous contract! Now Revis want more than Asomugha and rightfully so.

Anyway I think the Jets are playing it the right way. There is a good chance there will be a lockout after the season. There are many rumors swirling that the CAP will drop so its not in the best interest for the Jets to be handing out large contracts until the cap situation is further clarified. I really dont think money is the issue. We're talking about Johnson & Johnson here. They just got the Superbowl, there not going to want losing seasons. They are all great players and I am confident at least three of the four will return - Mangold, Da Brick and Revis. The Jets are not letting those three go. They are all potentially HOFer's.

EDIT: I know Revis and Aso have been talking ala the Miami cheat were talking .... Sexy Rexy + Revis + Aso :o :o :o ... so Tanny Pay the Man and than let Nmandi do a ledouche and join the Jets in a few

the problem is very simple: Revis is wrong, the Jets are right.

Revis wants to be paid like a free agent, but he's got 3 years left on his deal. if he wants long-term security 3 years before his contract is up, he has to be willing to give something back -- instead, Revis is pushing to be highest paid CB in the game, looking for more money than the RIDICULOUS deal that the Raiders gave Asomugha, which is essentially franchise QB money.

Revis is taking an impossible stance -- he's negotiating with no leverage and yet he's asking for the moon. he wants to be the highest-paid CB and get fully guaranteed money, yet the uncapped season rules don't allow for that. like the Ferguson contract, the Jets can only offer a guarantee against injury OR skill, and Revis wants both. he's literally asking for a contract that the Jets cannot give him at this time, and he's pissed about that

and by holding out, he's only hurting himself. not only is he voiding the guaranteed money remaining in his contract (if he gets hurt, he doesn't get ****) but if he holds out beyond August 10th, he loses 1 year of Free Agency eligibility. so the hold out may cause a lot of noise and controversy, but it really only helps the Jets get even more leverage.

i hope the Jets stick to their guns. stop saying that the Jets don't take care of their own, because they just locked up D'Brick and they've offered Revis a contract bigger than DB in football not named Asomugha. and rightfully so because he's NOT a free agent and no matter how good Revis is, no DB should be making franchise QB money. that's not enough to satisfy his ego, apparently, and he's throwing a bitch fit. i'm just glad the Jets were proactive in trading for Cromartie and drafting Wilson.

sure revis is wrong but the jets are also at fault here ... you create an ego, you better feed it because if you don't then what you have is a prima donna

I like Revis and he deserves to get paid. He is the best CB in the game. I just don't think he could be paid more than Asomugha. That contract like the owner is crazy.

Exactly. It's unreasonable to ask for more money. The Jets gave him a very fair offer. I'm starting to think he's completely wrong on this one. Meanwhile, we gave a great deal to Brick and Mangold's negotiation is getting held up bc of Revis...this is getting messy.

You guys realize since this was an uncapped year there are limits to raises? This not only Effected revis but also C Johnson. A deal will be done whether this year or next. If he threatens to hold out (It sucks I know) but that is the only leverage he has. As far as the players getting pissed because of broken promises I would not look into it too hard. LJ screwed himself by asking for 1 back money and then did not sign the offer last year which was performance based. paying big money for a 3rd down situation back who could not be a number one back over the course of a full year is extreme is it now? So when he broke his leg he lost everything he should change agents as the offer (and most of the offers from the Jets have been) performance based and reasonable fair for both sides.
Revis can be pissed about it but that is the situation till next off season and maybe a new CBA will be in place and he get his deserved money. 16 million is sick but hey the market has been set

Well he is officially holding out for now. He's being fined 16K per day. Hopefully he gets traded

Some of these players need to get their agents under control. I absolutely hate what happened to LW but he had a fair deal on the table and turned it down. Now Revis is shooting for the moon without any leverage whatsoever. He can hold out all he wants, but he's only hurting himself. Revis will eventually show up, but right now Kyle Wilson is licking his chops.

The one I'm worried about is Mangold. He should have been first in line, even before Brick.

OT: Why are the Jets so reluctant to pay Revis?

Post#33 » by atribecalledrch » Tue Aug 10, 2010 3:46 pm

Can someone explain this to me? I'm starting to get worried because this is foolishness. They need him to solidify the defense. PAY THE MAN! Do you think they'll work something out before the season starts?

Jeez... One of these threads every day or so now.. One more time.

- Nnamdi makes 15 million per, which is outrageous, and even Revis isn't worth that.

- Revis wants to be paid well over 15 more with more years.

- Harris, Mangold, Holmes, Edwards, Cromartie are all FA's after the season.

- Revis has no leverage. He has 3 more years left on his deal.

i don't follow the jets, and i haven't kept up much with football (I've been focusing my stress on the knicks) but what's the problem? is it a cap issue? doesn't this season have no cap? can't they frontload the **** out of his deal?
