Calderon for Crawford?

Post#1 » by saloonyk8 » Sun Aug 1, 2010 3:50 pm

Straight up. They want an expiring, we need a PG. Money matches up.

Negatives, JC more clutch than JJ. Then we'd have 3PG, none close to all star caliber. But hes a definite upgrade IMO.

Thoughts?

I think I'm higher on Calderon than many, but I still would want something else. We'd prolly want to dump someone so that we can open up some room to resign Horford next off-season. Bibby makes the most sense since we'd be getting a PG. If they'd take Bibby for Reggie Evans and kick in a future draft pick, then I'd consider it, but just straight up? Nah.

Given the financial situation and Al Horford's impending free agency I would pass. Acquiring a PG with 2 more years on his deal after this one while Bibby is on the hook next year for 6M would make it too dangerous that we might lose Horford next off-season. This ownership group won't pay luxury tax and in order to do that they need to hold on to expiring contracts and take on no more commitments.

Calderon would help at PG, but the long term implications are too negative.

CAlderon is a better shooting, less assertive Bibby right now. He can't play a lick of defense man or off ball (Bibby at least has his "laying in the weeds" moments) he doesn't push the tempo and is more concerned with making 100% passes without taking any chances. I rather keep the cheaper more battle tested Bibby over trading Jamal for him.

I'm one of the few who likes Calderon's game, ESPECIALLY for the Hawks, but his lack of defense and kinda expensive contract means he'll be very hard to move. The man who's 6th MOTY and an expiring contract is not going for Calderon.

Besides, we'd still have Bibby and a 1st rounder at PG.

Wanna trade Calderon for Bibby and Mo Evans?

I wouldn't take on Calderon for anything we have. Calderon is a slightly better Bibby with a much bigger contract.

I'd like to think Toronto would trade Calderon for either Bibby or Crawford because of the fact that we're not a playoff team with or without him, but I have this feeling BC wouldn't even trade for Crawford if he could :(

Bibby & Crawford for Calderon & Barbosa maybe?? I'd throw in Miami's 2011 1st too

What do you guys think of Marvin Williams? The Hawks don't have that great of a need for him especially at 7-8 mill a season... but he'd fit in well in the run and gun system the Raptors are trying to implement as a starting SF. The Hawks would benefit much more with Calderons PG abilities alongside JJ. Would you guys consider a deal of Calderon + Evans (expiring) + a first round pick for Williams + Bibby?

Potential lineup:
Calderon
Johnson
Smith
Horford
Shaq?

Calderon has a big contract for a backup point guard role...Crawford is valuable in ATL as a 6th!

In all fairness Jose Calderon should be a starting PG in the right system. He's got a good 3 pt shot (~40%) and strong assist to turnover ratio. He got compensated at the maximum for his potential which is a bad thing because he didn't continue progressing on that curve. His numbers were similar to Steve Nash before he exploded. Calderon slid backward. For his production he should be closer to Mike Bibby's price tag (or less) and not 9-10M per. His contract makes him an easy pass for a team with these financial resources.

Calderon for Crawford is an obvious steal for us. That doesnt work. However what might work for both teams is.

Calderon

for

Bibby
Evans

only ends up costing you 3 million more next year, upgrade the PG spot and he would look amazing with Josh Smith. Toronto cuts his contract by a year and rebuild. Now i dont know if thats a move BC would make but i would.

2 expiring vets that help now. A young big to add to the Scottie timeline
I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks
