The Suns never had a chance that year. Do we need to recap what they were able to do to us without getting in trouble?

And Tastic, I like the Ike idea, but unfortunately it leaves us with too many SFs and PFs. Looking at Ike's last two games with SAC, I wish we would have signed him instead of Warrick. I think Ike could have been had at a cheaper price and for less years. Both of those things would have given us flexibility with less risk.

Oh. Hell no.

IF you are saying that the Suns had no chance to win the title that year, you are WRONG. UGH. I really can't stand to even talk about it. Please don't make me. We should have been Champions that year, but we were painfully, PAINFULLY robbed by someone who in cold simple fact fixed games. Everyone knows that was our year. And we got robbed.

I was implying (by the second half of my comment) that the league wasn't going to allow us to move on that year.

Edit: Stern was fully aware that Donaghy was suspected of fixing games before the playoffs even started ( he even said so). Also we already know that Stern sends down orders to fix certain games. I find it funny that the draft order used to be done in front of everyone, and on television, until the year that Ewing was drafted. Where the bent corner of the envelope was chosen by the Knicks. I guess that is why I am a bit glad that Miami did what they did. It will really force Stern's hand, and he may be less able to dictate how the NBA plays out.

Dangit. I really want someone to disagree with me on the basketball aspect of that year. Bummer. But yes. Sadly you are correct. Although it makes no sense, I mean, they were the most fun team in the league. Instead they got one of the crappiest Finals in history, with atrocious ratings. Makes no sense.

It doesn't make any sense, but the heart wants what the heart wants. I am not sure what the Spurs had over Stern  or why they were able to have two number one picks in years where the number one pick was quite clear. We all saw how he  screwed over Boston the year they clearly tanked to get the number one pick but instead Portland got it, but the Spurs clearly tanked to get Duncan.

It might have been that there were better international stars on the Spurs that year, and Stern  has been trying to market the NBA to the whole world. I mean, they already have a Canada team, so Nash wasn't a big deal to him. Parker is a bigger star than Diaw. Oh well, it is just a theory.

Also looking back on that year, I am not sure we were tough enough to beat out the Jazz after beating the Spurs (if it were to happen.) There were a lot of ifs that year. Utah had beaten us three out of the four games that regular season, and they were a very physical team. I just don't know if we could have handled six to seven games of both the Spurs and Utah.

Many people forget about that after going through the whole fixed stuff.

Utah was trash that year. They beat up on a Warriors team that blew their load on Dallas and got destroyed by San Antonio.

Some centers still un-signed we should consider...

Ian Mahinmi, Nazr Mohammed, Aaron Gray, Etan Thomas, Patrick O-Bryant?

think the only guy of ANY sort of value in that list is Nazr. i'd pick him over anyone there and would have picked him or Kurt Thomas. Sadly though, we are probably looking at a cheap vet min guy to ride the pine.....if anyone at all.

Think Sean Marks, Pat Burke type players.

most likely Lawal will be the end of the roster guy. At least he has some upside

Naw dude, the Suns/Spurs series that year WAS the Championship. And sadly, we were cheated out of it. IF we were beating the SPURS, then we for sure could've beat the garbage Utah Jazz. And the of course the Cavs... now THAT team was a joke.
