would you guys be happy gettin harrison barnes?
and building around him ? devin harris, terrence williams, harrison, derrick, brook.....you guys would be stacked.....and the best part is, due to a great young core, harrison wouldn't have the pressure of having to be the man right away, you guys could bring him along during the season.....and imagine in a couple years you guys would be championship material.....i'm from nj and would love to see you do well eventhough i'm a lakers fan.....best of luck guys....

Re: would you guys be happy gettin harrison barnes?
I don't know a lot about most of these prospects so far, but this kid is supposed to be truly elite level prospect, so as of now, of course I would say yes, I would love to land the #1 overall pick and draft this kid.
It's really too early to tell though. Have to wait until at least the first half of the college season to know for sure.
If we're going to go on true realistic, yet still dream scenarios involving the draft, I would say I would hope we could trade Devin and Terrence Williams at the deadline for Danny Granger, still finish with a high lotto record, make the jump to maybe the 2nd overall pick and take Kyrie Irving.
I truly believe this is our last year in the lottery if we remained relatively unchanged, or have a really bad record going into the trade deadline, where even playing above .500 ball after a big trade still lands us in the top 8 picks.
I think we win somewhere in the high 20 to very very low 30's this year, add another impact player through the draft, make a trade or two and possibly sign a free agent, resulting in a young playoff team in 2011-12, that hopefully grows into an eventual legit contender in maybe 3 additional seasons, becoming a stronger playoff team each year leading up to that goal.

Too soon to say who is going to emerge as the best player in this draft. Ys, he has the buzz right now.
Your question has to be answered like this....
IF we do not make a major trade to land a superstar before the season starts...or lets say early in the season...yes....I would be ecstastic to land whoever is the top guy in the next draft. THat of course will most likely mean we are heading for another awful season in terms of wins and losses.
I am absolutely ready for that...and would be happier to win closer to 15 than 40 if we dont land a superstar. It would truly SUCK to overachive this season with this roster. Because that means...we end up with a middle of the road season, and barring extreme lottery luck....a pick closer to 10 than top 5.
If you are going to stink...stink ALL THE WAY in this league. From there...bring on the #1 pick. Hopefully we dont gt screwed like we did in this draft. I really like Favors...but I love Turner...and of course everyone loves Wall. Hopefully, if Favors stays with us...he ends up being the best player in this draft anyway. TIme will tell.....

I don't know much about Barnes except he's a SF and he has alot of hype. If we draft him #1 overall and he's a day 1 starter, Outlaw has to go.

I don't think he'll be the best player in the draft next year.

While it is too early to think about the 2011 draft.. I will say that it's gonna be interesting to see who we'll be interested in come draft time. I know you always take the best player available but; We have our future C and PF locked up, our 2nd best player is a PG and we have 5 wingmen all younger than 25.

I feel...unless you are a piece away...or its a true toss up between guys playing different positions...
ALWAYS take the best player. Just make trades later. DOnt draft for a specific position. ANd the Devin thing...I would be thrilled to upgrade him. THRILLED!

I don't know if there is anyway you can justify taking a center or power forward though, unless Favors is looking like a complete bust or you're drafting to trade down or for a superstar.

Re: would you guys be happy gettin harrison barnes?
Looming lockout + 2011 draft = SUCKITUDE
Elite talent WILL NOT come out next spring if an NBA lockout is on the way, and anyway, Harrison Barnes has said he wants to stay all four years and graduate from UNC. I'm not naive, mind you, but that sort of talk from an elite talent usually means they'll stay at least two years.
If there was ever a year for us to push the chips all in and try to shove this young nucleus into the playoffs, it would be this year. Maybe that sort of improvement will be enough to lure a big FA like Melo next offseason. If not, there will be plenty of time to suck AFTER the partially shortened 2011-12 season, where both Barnes and likely Gilchrist will be available in the 2012 draft.

I disagree with this statement. Now maybe your 2nd/3rd tier under-classmen might not declare, but I still think a great majority of your top level guys will. Even if the league isn't playing (and I don't think they'll pull a NHL and cancel a full year), that sneaker/endorsement money is still there.
Also, let's be honest how many of these guys once they know are going to leave school, they stop attending class? More than a few of these guys are not going to put in the extra year of school work because of the chance they don't collect a full 82-game salary in year #1.
Now, I'm too young to remember if a bunch of "elite" guys decided to stay in school back in 1998, but looking at that draft, 8 of the top 10 picks were underclassmen.
Just a guess here, but while there will be fewer people leaving early, it would be more the 2nd and 3rd tier players who can't bank on being a lottery pick and/or endorsement revenue right away.

That's because you are always thinking in terms of draft or trading IN THE draft.
First....you can never have enough big men in this league. Next...worst case sceanrio...you get PAID in a trade for proven talent. Even if Favors and Brook are fantastic...if the best player on the board is a NO BRAINER big man...still take him. Its not the worst problem in the world to have 3 quality big men...see Bynum/Gasol/Odom.

Exactly, especially if, once Favors' bulks up like they want him to, he'll be able to swing between 4/5 much like Gasol. Top big man are hard to come by. If you are in a position to draft one (and a legit big man that is), you draft one. You sort it out later.
Guys like Kwame and Darko, despite their failures, carried that potential that got them drafted far longer than it should have. Talented young big man with potential will be tradeable with little loss in their value within the first 1-2 years unless they just absolutely stink it up.

You guys are right saying we need another big guy to have a trio. But don't we need a versatile athletic 4 (Gerald Wallace/Josh Smith/Lamar Odom) over a post player 4 (Al Jefferson/Kevin Love/Luis Scola)?

Keep an eye on these guys for starters...
Perry Jones(Really more of a SF though)
Jared Sullinger
Enes Kanter
Elias Harris
Donatas Moteijunas
Fab Melo(You'll be seeing a lot of this guy E)
Trey Thompkins

Re: would you guys be happy gettin harrison barnes?
You got it brother!
I will.
And I am not saying...I am looking for a big man. You got that right? Of course...I HOPE the best player is a perimter talent...a star! Absolutely. I was just saying...at this stage of our team development...it would suck to take Bowie because you drafted Drexler last year, or Oden because you already had Aldridge (not as good an example). My point is...when you are a rebuiding project...more mistakes get made by drafting for need over best talent. Take the best guy unless its splitting hairs. See the Wizards taking Wall when the one guy they know is there for a while is Arenas. Philly taking Turner despite having Iggy...and Brand looking like he is washed up. Those were the right moves for two bad teams. Yes, they have issues that wil most likely have to be resolved. But, I think its better to resolve it by trade later...than kick yourself for bypassing someone who is a no brainer.
Hopefully...at your pick is both. THe BPA and a position upgrade for your starting 5. But if you have to chose...and you are still under rebuilding...you know which way I believe history has proven is the way to go.
I will.

If the team gets a lottery pick they should get another big by trading the pick. This team is young enough already.

From the guys that you mentioned, the player comparisons that I have are:
Perry Jones - K. Durant
Jarred Sullinger - smaller, quicker Andrew Bynum with some ballhandling ability
Enes Kanter - Can't really think of someone but for now a little better post-injury Arvydas Sabonis
Donatas Moteijunas - Couldn't really find videos
Fab Melo - Demarcus Cousins
Trey Thompkins - Couldn't find much either
