Ross Siler appreciation thread
Ross Siler had his last day on the Jazz beat at the Salt Lake Tribune this past week. I'm really going to miss his coverage of the Jazz. Whether it was in print, on his blog, via his twitter account or on his radio appearances he really did a fine job of covering the Jazz from many interesting angles. He was interesting, fair and entertaining.
I don't recall ever being this bummed about losing a beat writer. I don't actually recall ever caring at all before.
Here's hoping law school works out for him and he returns to the Jazz with a sweet front office job.

Re: Ross Siler appreciation thread
Siler was awesome, I loved his old salt lake tribune blog. Showed the personalities of the players and he just seemed to always give information us fans were looking for. Sucks he's going but can't blame him if he wants to be home every night and get paid a lot more. Wish him the best.

Re: Ross Siler appreciation thread
I am actually guessing a beat writer gets paid more than most lawyers.

Re: Ross Siler appreciation thread
For a good paper, the main beat writer can make upwards of $50,000 and depending on their tenure they can get a lot higher.
Going to law school is a bit of a gamble, but he probably hates the road schedule considering he has family.

I will miss Siler. When you take his twitter into account, the man gave us much more info than any of the other beat writers.

yes, Siler's twitter was very nice to have for any jazz fan. I hope his replacement is half as good.

Dude did a good, accurate, insightful, interesting job; clearly a contributor. You cannot say it very often these days. Wish him well.

Yeah, he was a big time baseball fan in real life (red sox) and got a job offer in Minnesota to cover the Twins so he jumped at it. Unfortunately right after he got there the economy dropped out and the Star Tribune dropped him because he had the least amount of tenure on the sports staff.
He bounced around and did some temp stuff for SI but I think the star trib finally rehired him. He was a good guy. I really liked his articles, and he was always up to date on the blog as well. Hopefully the next guy is big on the blog also.

Monson and Brad Rock are insufferable.
