You can blame Felton for allowing Nelson to drive past him, but it's not easy to get up and defend a shooter on the perimeter (especially with the constant pick-and-rolls) and still keep him from driving past you. Nelson got past Felton at will, but he scored most of his points from the outside. If we had a center that could do anything besides just pick up fouls, it may have been a different story.

Brown and others always preach about team defense, and our centers contributed nothing to helping out the rest of the team defensively.

They defended Howard very, very well.

Hamilton is still upset we were able to make the playoffs without Emeka the Great. He was openly rooting for our centers to fail in the playoffs. Only someone with an agenda would put a rosy spin on why Felton sucked in the playoffs.

If by defending well, you mean they used their fouls wisely and drew an offensive foul on Howard every now and then, then sure, they were greeeeeeeeeat!

I set the bar a wee bit higher than that, especially when the price tag is ~25m.

The reason we had success against Howard was because we went at him and got him into foul trouble -- not because of our centers. 14 of the 22 fouls called on Howard were due to players other than our centers.

As for Battery, our centers suck -- get over it. In the playoffs, they did not provide offense, they did not rebound well, they provided no help defense whatsoever, and their "crowning achievement" of stopping Howard was more due to the players around them than anything they did. This is reality.

Our center rotation sucked last year, and assuming we don't retain Dampier, it's only gotten worse due to less depth.

We need a contributing center.

There is one other trend that I have noticed. A lot of teams seem to stockpile bigs. True, some of them are crud, but they still manage to have enough good ones to bang folks around. Our situation regarding bigs has been embarrasing. Either we can't draft them, or we can't teach them, or we can't play them. :x

We are always short on centers that can PLAY. Heck, if we had been lucky enough to have Dwight Howard as our draft pick 7 years ago, he wouldn't have panned out. Management has NEVER taken the care and training of our centers to be a vital coaching duty.

So sad... a team that can only run at 4/5ths of capacity due to ignorance.

Claw on, Bobcats fans.

In related news, Portland just signed Armon Johnson, making 15 on their roster as of now. i think we should be looking at Patty Mills as our third string point guard.

I've been cheering for Mills for a little while and would love him here. Good shooter, super quick, super hard worker, willing to learn.
Portland actually gave him a QO so I'm not sure what is going to happen there. Unless they are going to rescind that so he can find another team.

we have nba starter quality at the SF and SG position though they are at best borderline all-star.
we are passable at the PF position due to quantity but not quality.
we are terrible at the C despite quantity. if dampier actually plays a minute as a bobcat, management is more stupid than i thought.
we had an "average" starting point guard but now we don't. but we do have nba quality backup point guards.

so i guess it is center that is of need.
