Damn. I'm not a huge Favre guy (the knob slobbing he got made me vomit) but I am very surprised to hear this.

Last 7 postseason games, 15 INTs, 2-5 in that span.
I have a hard time putting him in the 1st tier all time QBs. No other "elite" QB had the ability to COMPLETELY take you out of the game with his mistakes. He is HOF, one of the best, but I don't put him in top 5 all time, probably not even top 10.
He went for the knockout too many times & it cost him dearly. That playoff game against the Iggles like 4 years ago. Overtime, Packers defense makes a stop, 1st play of the Pack possession, Favre throws one of the worst passes I ever saw. Dawkins was just standing there as if he was about to call a fair catch! That is a season ending play that made NO sense.

wow... after going to the playoffs last season and having a very good season i thought he was going to play one more year.
so, what's now the future for green bay?
and what i liked about favre was his passion and his will to continue and go on. i think he was just tired and had lost that passion/love for the game.

Quarterback Brett Favre told Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy Monday night that he was going to retire.
But his agent, James (Bus) Cook, told the Journal Sentinel this morning that he believes Favre wants to play another year and didn't get the sense that the Packers wanted him back all that badly.
"It's my opinion," Cook said of the Packers' lack of interest. "I know he wants to play one more year. I do not know much conversation there was (between Favre and the Packers) and I don't think anyone forced him to make that decision. But I don't know that anyone tried to talk him out of it."
Cook said that Favre feels physically and mentally capable of playing at least one more year.
"I think he wanted to play," Cook said. " I think he's still got it. He knows he's still got it. I think he felt he could play one more year. I don't know if they told him they really wanted him to play. That's just the feeling I got."
Cook was asked whether he thought Favre could be talked into returning: "I don't know," he said.

HE ABSOLUTELY LEFT AT THE RIGHT TIME!
he took that franchise from contender to contender. in other words, in his heyday, that team was loaded, reggie white and all of those stars etc., then the team hit a dead period of talentless players, and he played the team through that. and waited until the team got the draft picks. nurtured the young talent. and waited, brought up and raised that team to contender again. and now retires.
brett farvre did a great thing for that franchise, and is leaving the cupboard full.

The Ironman of football is no more. And how can he be overrated if everyone agrees he is a gunslinger whos records speak that, most TDS most INTs. That is why people liked him. He was a flawed man's man. And he will be a 1st ballot HOFer because of it.

How can he be overrated? Well when a player's faults become endearing qualities that sports writers write about as if they are a plus, then that player becomes overrated. I have never seen a QB given a pass for his football deficiencies like Farve.
From ESPN.com's Matt Mosley
Joe Montana was brilliant in Bill Walsh's West Coast offense, but if there's a minute left on the clock and my team needs to go 80 yards for a score, give me Favre. I don't think any man has ever played the game with as much joy and passion as Favre.
Wait, how many big INTs has Farve thrown in his career? How clutch has this guy been? 15 INTs 2-5 over last 7 playoff games & Mosley wants HIM? Then his justification is "no one has ever played with as much joy & passion"???? How is this not a PERFECT example of the media overrating Favre? They support their arguments with emotion, not fact.
