Grade the Yankees' Trades

Post#1 » by jack_theripper » Sat Jul 31, 2010 8:03 pm

In:

Lance Berkman (+4 Million)
Austin Kearns
Kerry Wood (+1.8 Million)

Out:

Mark Melancon
Jimmy Paredes
PTBNL (Kearns trade)
PTBNL (Wood trade) or Cash

I give Cashman an A. Great moves.

Ultimately depends on who the PTBNL are but they usually are scrap players anyways. No harm, no foul moves that could pay off big. Even if not, they really didn't lose that much in terms of assets.

Player I'm most interested in seeing is Wood. Always been a fan.

I give 'em an A too. With how dry the market has been this year, he turned a bunch of low level prospects that had no chance on playing with the Yankees (maybe not Melancon, but he had no future in NY) into a quality bench player, a DH, and a low-risk high reward reliever. Relief is going to be less of a problem come playoff time because Hughes will likely take over the 8th inning role once his innings limit is reached. I don't see how anyone could disagree with any of these moves.

I'll give Cash a B. Really wanted Soria, but the Royals wanted to rape the system. No major moves just little tweeks and we didn't give up much, so I'm content.
