Timberwolves Waive Delonte West
Just saw this on the Wiretap.
Anyone interested in giving Delonte an NBA Min Contract and telling him he starts as long as he stays out of trouble? If he screws up we can release him and not lose much.
Now I'm thinking signing him would put us over our 15 man roster so we we'd still need to move TJ or Dunleavy, I just don't see a deal out there to move TJ Ford.

I like Delonte, I like the way he plays. I'd be willing to risk it, honestly.

I like Delonte's game and I think he would be an upgrade over TJ. Guys who have to remember to take their meds are scary though. Didn't they catch him speeding with small arsenal of fire arms. Taken to the extreme he could make Artest in the Palace look like a minor skirmish.

Are we going to get one of these threads for every PG that's on the market or hits the market? There is no chance in hell that Bird even thinks about offering Delonte "Desperado" West a contract.

Re: Timberwolves Waive Delonte West
Nope. Not a chance. The guy just doesn't even come close to having his head put back together. Maybe in another 2 or 3 years he will, but he's just not close right now. Not close enough to risk this lineup with him.
But, why would he come to Indy? For the vet minimum that he could get back home in Philly, or back in Cleveland? Or in LA?

We spent sooooooo much energy to turn the ship after the BRAWL; why even consider this as an option. There are other players besides this knee jurk reaction.

No. Too much risk for too little potential reward.
I'd rather see Lance Stephenson get a shot at playing pg. Less risk, more potential reward.

Looks like an idiot, acts like an idiot, plays like an idiot.
must be an idiot. We've spent time clearing our roster of these guys. Plus as someone already mentioned, i dont think any of our players have single mothers.

You know he does look like a moron! But the more I think about it logically a min contract that is only partly garanteed shouldn't be "too much" to risk, but then when you think about the troubles this team has had it just may not be worth putting West on our team for even a week.

Re: Timberwolves Waive Delonte West
First of all, some of you all are idiots. Second of all, Delonte is from the Maryland/VA/DC area. Delonte is bi-polar or at least has some sort of mood-disorder. That can not be understated. Because of his illness, which it is, he has missed practices, team flights and games. He has had this issue since even high school. I worked the summer league games back in high school and knew his high school assistant coach. There were signs even then, but weed really helped him out to come his anxieties. Now, he can't really smoke up like he used to. Beasley is having the same issues these days believe it or not.
Delonte this summer was pulled over for driving dangerously, well i like to put it not knowing how to drive his spyder motorcycle (see the video on tube of his arrest), and having guns some of which were loaded. He was off his meds and was having a near paranoia attack. During the last offseason he married his college g/f who he had dated off and on for the previous 5 years. That was tumultuous at best and they got divorced near the beginning of the season which exacerbated the situation. This 'crap' happened while Delonte was not on his meds. People with are bipolar often think they are cured after they get on their meds. They think they can do it without the meds. And they ultimately can't most of the time.
With that said and assuming Delonte has been back on his meds for near a year now, he would be absolute upgrade at both the pg or the SG spot. He will get signed and whomever signs him will probably sign him for a little more than the league's minimum assuming they have space.
We have to remember this past year was the worst year of Delonte's life as a professional basketball player. He has good people surrounding him.
Lance Stephenson with no risk? LoL thats funny. Mess up team chemistry? LOL Delonte is the poster child for doing whatever is asked of him on the court. That is why some championship contending teams will take a long look at him. He is the ultimate team player.

Re: Timberwolves Waive Delonte West
So because he is bi-polar it's ok for him to act like an idiot? Being bi-polar must also make it ok for him to carry around multiple loaded weapons (which weren't registered either), and operate a vehicle that he, in your words, didn't know how to drive.
Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Get on up, it's bobsled time!

Actually Dunthreeevy...they WERE registered. If they were not registered, he would have had a heavier sentence. His mistake is transporting them in the open (since he was on motorcycle) and transporting them while loaded.
If thats what you call acting like an idiot, then so be it. He is an idiot. But pychological issues are hard to understand, and you obviously do not or did not try to understand them. Any team trying to sign him, will have to take his mental illness into consideration. On the basketball court, he is a fighter, scrappy, and the ultimate team player.
By the way, he definitely seemed like he wasn't too in control of his vehicle. Whether that is because he was in his paranoia mental state or not remains to be seen. However, I doubt we will ever know.

Well I didn't mean to insult people but people were being ignorant about Delonte West. Basketball wise, any team should want a player like him at a minimum salary.

On talent alone, yes. I agree.
However, as awful as it sounds, I think very few teams would have interest in him, even at a minimum salary because he is bipolar and apparently has a history of going off his prescribed medications. How much of training camp did he miss? How many games off and on did he miss because he was in a funk? I certainly understand how being bi-polar can greatly affect one's life. I've seen it up close and personal. However, it's hard for a team to trust and invest (playing time) in someone that they can't depend on. That's a huge thing, especially if you're a PG. PG's have to play day in and day out and be consistent to help their team, otherwise, they can be more of a hindrance.
