Minimum Salary Applies at the End of the Season

Post#1 » by shrink » Wed Aug 4, 2010 2:32 pm

From Larry Coon, #10

Larry Coon wrote: At the other end of the spectrum there is a minimum team salary, which is defined as 75% of the salary cap. Any team that doesn't spend at least that much is surcharged at the end of the season, and that money is given to the players.

Here's where we stand right now:

$46,033,192 Current Payroll (includes Rubio’s cap hold. Does not include Steimsa’s unguaranteed contract)
$43,220,992 Payroll so far this Fall (less Rubio cap hold)

$12,010,808 Current Cap Space
$14,823,008 Current Cap Space less Rubio’s cap hold

$58,044,000 2010-11 Salary Cap
$70,307,000 2010 Luxury Threshold
$43,533,000 2010 Minimum Threshold (75% of cap)

Kahn has done a good job from an owners perspective :)

Say what you will, but for a rebuilding team we're really in as good of a position in terms of young players and manageable contracts as we could hope to be. The team has a series of young players and as much cap flexibility as is allowed. Time will only tell how good the young players we have are, but you can't deny that several of them have some solid upsides. Combine that with positioning to make a one-sided trade at the deadline should it present itself and I couldn't ask for more.

Kahn is a goofy guy who loves the camera, but I feel like he's dug us out of a hole and there's actually hope for the future.

I agree, I feel way better about this team than I have in a few years. There is now talent all over the place. All of them have good upsides, we have some depth for once, and plenty of cap space just in case.

PG is a little better with a more mature Jonny and Ridnour
SG is way better with Webster, the new Brewer, and improved Ellington.
SF is far better with Beasley, Wes and Lazar.
PF is about even, Love should be better with another year under his belt, and with starters minutes.
C is much better with Darko and Pek.

Beas, Webster and Ridnour all have playoff experience, and have been starters on playoff teams.
They should be fun to watch, I think 30 wins isn't out of the question. Rambis seems very happy :)

Plenty of space to take on Iguodala in a deadline deal...

True ... very hard to complain.

Roster upgrade (short-term and long-term) ... some future draft picks ... cap flexibility

In a nutshell, we have good young (prospective) players with very tradeable contracts ... that other teams may actually want!!!!

I'm so fed up with the Kahn bashing. Considering our (Wolves) history, we are in the best position we have EVER been in both financially and talent wise. Minus our luck in selecting Garnett, we have had almost ZERO talent as a team. Kahn has taken a bunch of mediocre bench players and traded them for young talent at very reasonable contracts. Our roster is filled with potential and we still have cap space to make a move for someone like an Iggy at the deadline when a team like the Sixers will be looking to dump salary because they are out of the playoff picture. The name of the game for the Wolves is flexibility and working to find the pieces that can grow with Rambis and his system.
We have to do the impossible, but it is possible.

I've heard that's not an option. Kahn thinks he's overpaid and doesn't want him.

Haha Krapinsky... nice sig.

Khan has done a great job. Roster is much improved with less salary commitment. If you break it down move by move, some may seem questionable, but looking at our aggregate position, its hard to argue...well... obviously not that hard (simmons, etc).

We just need some OKC luck and land #2 pick when we are in the #5 or 6 position and get our Durant. That is the only thing that seperates us from these other up-and-coming teams.

Really? I thought he said that about Kevin Martin.

He is overpaid;
12,345,250 $13,351,750 $14,718,250 $15,904,75
And with the arrival of Beasley, Webster and Wes. He doesn't make too much sense anymore.

Besides the fact that he's a giant upgrade over all of them?

Upgrade yes, giant is very debatable. He isn't a number one scorer. He is a good number two.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
