Caron Butler?

Post#1 » by RiversideClips » Wed Aug 4, 2010 2:30 am

Butler has about $10 mill. left at one year. The Clips are under the salary cap: what about Brian Cook & a future pick for Butler.
Any thoughts? I think he will be a good addition

We wouldn't be able to trade Cook until December 15th. Also, I don't see Mark Cuban trying to shed salary at the expense of losing talent.

^ I don't see Dallas trading him either. We don't really have an asset that would interest Dallas at this point.

They would love to get their hands on Kaman and would even add something on top of Butler.
Though, that's just not what we should(and will) do right now, especially after that solid season by Kaman and with us being 4 deep at the sf spot.

If Cuban wasn't the owner, we might have a chance of a deal like that. Dallas is looking to compete and Cuban is willing to pay whatever takes. I'd love an owner like that btw. If they were to trade Butler to the Clips, it would most likely be for Kaman and that just wouldn't be a good move for us unless Carmelo planned to tell the world that he was taking his talents to Hollywood next summer.

Extremely doubtful they would want Kaman. They just resigned Haywood for a good chunk of money, and traded for Tyson Chandler, whos also making a good chunk of money. If they wanted Kaman they would probably want to offload one of the other 2 to us, otherwise they would have alot of money tied up in the center position.

If it was some package like haywood and butler for kaman + something else, maybe but they are in Win Now mode, so i'm not sure that they would take young guys/picks.

Cuban wants to win now. Cook and a pick will not get him wins and take down the Lakers. Cook is usless and will not make any real team and a pick is just a pick. Clippers need it for there next few lottery parties.

Next few Lottery Parties? What type of statement is that??
I am hoping that we only have 1 more year at the most (I think if the stars align, I think we can surprise.)
Cuban doesn't like Butler, that has been documented in the Dallas Press. I think Cuban might be happy getting Salary relief, so he can turn it around & use it on someone he likes.

Don't hate.

That is true. Forgot about Chandler for a minute. I think that Dirk would love to play with Chris and vice versa, but they would have to move a big (probably Chandler) or somebody would be upset with the amount of minutes they were getting. I do like Haywood, but I don't like the contract that he got this summer due to the length. Dallas has a few players that are coming off of the books next season, but they are in a financial situation where that doesn't really create cap space. I could totally see them moving or trying to move players such as Butler, Chandler or Terry (partially guaranteed next season), so that they keep the team competitive and maximize their winning potential.
