Trade Deadline Wing Candidates

Post#1 » by Klomp » Thu Aug 5, 2010 1:47 am

Who are some candidates of packages to use our capspace and assets at the deadline?

Denver - Carmelo
Indiana - Granger
Memphis - Gay
New York - Gallinari/Curry
Philadelphia - Iguodala

Any other packages out there?

Carmelo: pipedream
Granger: pipedream
Gay: not at $16m
Gallinari/Curry: can't see NY moving him until/if Melo is there
Iguodala: seems like the only feasible option but apparantly Kahn thinks he's overpaid

honestly, I can't think of anyone other than Iggy.

I don't see us making a move like this this until the offseason when we'll have Flynn and our pick to deal.

Hmmm .. who might like money?

Gerald Wallace? Too old?

OJ Mayo and Zach Ramdolph, when it all goes south for cheap MEM?

Eric Gordon? James Harden?

I don't want to do Evan Turner + Elton Brand. Too expensive.

Gallo and Curry seem best, but I'd certainly make a lucrative offer to DEN for Melo and expensive flotsam. The Nuggets aren't that rich.

Does Ben Gordon do anything for anyone? I wouldn't touch him with that albatross contract, but he seems like a SG with talent.

I also like Courtney Lee and Terrence Williams from NJ, but the last thing NJ needs is cap space.

Caron Butler maybe?

Childress if he doesn't work out in PHX and they want to move him right away.

Kevin Martin has already been axed.
Jason Richardson is too old.

Not that I don't believe you but when did Kahnsy say he thought Iggy was overpaid? I've heard him say K Martins contract was bad and Brands but when did he say Iggys was bad? And I hope your wrong because he'd fit very well between Rubio and Wes. He better use Jeffersons capspace on something good.

Kahn said it in the paper last week.

Don't expect them to do something dramatic with all that acquired cap space just yet, and, judging from posts on here, don't get your heart all set on Andre Iguodala. Unless Kahn has changed his mind recently, he thinks Iguodala is overpaid and I don't get any sense from Kahn or Kuirt Rambis that they feel like they need to find a star 2 guard.

To be fair, this is through Zgoda who doesn't quote Kahn. I've never actually seen or heard a Kahn quote where he talks about Iggy's contract, as opposed to the interview he gave where he said that "the player from Sacramento" had too big a contract. Shrug.

Wallace is definitely on the down side. I can't say I've ever been a huge OJ Mayo fan so I could go without him. I actually really like Zach Randolph but I'm not sure if he's the route we need to go - and I think Memphis is trying to extend him. That will give them two huge contracts in the Memphis market. They might be a team whose calls we answer in the future when they run out of cash.

I like Eric Gordon's game quite a bit. He's a little undersized, but his perimeter scoring ability is fantastic and he's a true 2 with an improving handle. I would be all for us making a move his direction if the opportunity arose.

I'm not a huge James Harden guy, he may develop into something bigger but he just hasn't done much to excite me yet. He has the physical ability, but he isn't a big enough step up from what we already have to invest much into acquiring him.

I like Danilo a lot, but haven't seen enough of him to see if he even tries to play defense. You can't help but like his shooting range at 6'10", but in the games I have watched him play I'm not sure he ever crossed the 3pt line. If you needed any other reason to bring him on board, check out shamsports and what Danilo's nickname is. 'Nuff said.

That's because it's against league rules. If he quoted him he would be fined for tampering.

I'm not sure why that would be suspicious, Iggy is overpaid.
I think he is probably worth 10 million a year as a good number 2 scorer, he is getting paid this;
$12,345,250
$13,351,750
$14,718,250
$15,904,750

Those last two years are a little nuts, the 15.9 is a player option year.

When we were thinking about a swap of Jefferson for him it made perfect sense, salary wise. Now that Al is off the books, Iggy would eat up almost all of the cap space we have. It doesn't seem like such a great idea.

If they took Brewer, Flynn and Webster back for him, 11.7 million, it would make a bit more sense. Would they do that? They need outside shooting, Webster would help them, Jonny could back up Holiday, Brewer is expiring and potentially useful...

Thanks.

Ok Kahn. What in the hell is his vision for this team. Yeah obviously Iggy is overpaid but he is perfect for what we'd like to do. Rubio/Iggy/Wes is a running team..with defense. That'd be nice to see. A Suns like team with perimeter defense. Most guys your going to get with our capspace ARE overpaid. I hope Kahn doesnt think he can get Melo because like the op said, its a pipedream. Not sure if Zgoda is right or not but if Kahn said anything in the area of, we dont need a star 2 guard, why? Because our team is stacked with star sg's already? Kahn has bugged me since he picked Wes over Cuz. Spends too much time in front of the camera.

We have the rights to Rubio. Kahn please put people around him so that we can actually be competitive again. Been waitin since 04 Kahn

I think Kahn has a 10 year outlook, not a 2 or 3 year outlook. The goal is to get a #1 franchise caliber player. Obtaining Igoudala or someone of that ilk handicaps that possibility. It makes us better in 2 or 3 years, perhaps a playoff team, but it makes a championship in the next ten years even less likely because we'll never get that #1.

If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times....Igoudala is over rated on this board.

I really like that proposed Indy trade with us landing Brandon Rush. However, without another trade somewhere else it just further creates a logjam at the wing position as Rush is a similar caliber player as Brewer, Webster, Johnson, Ellington, and Hayward.

I still think Mayo might be the wing with the most upside that we could potentially realistically acquire.

The alternative that hasn't been mentioned (understandably) would be to just save the cap space. Obviously we all know that a team like us having cap space doesn't necessarily mean much, but its still probably a better option that just absording a **** contract. A way this option could be deemed acceptable is if these guys start to show some serious signs of life. This way when some of these younger guys hit free agency we have plenty of cash available to extend them a la OKC's approach (granted they've got more talent)....OR maybe if we start playing better we could actually lure a legit free agent.
