Johnson Becomes Top Paid WR

Post#1 » by Munchlaxatives » Fri Aug 6, 2010 5:38 am

That is a ton of money.

Johnson received a two-year extension worth $23.5 million, with a maximum value of $38.5 million. He gets $13 million guaranteed. His deal is worth a max value of seven years and $73.5 million — an average of $10.5 million a year.

Marshall is in the discussion, but Andre Johnson is a beast (like Marshall) w/o the baggage. I'll take Johnson.

Do you think he'll still have baggage playing for the dolphins?

I still perfer Fitzgerald but think Johnson is the 2nd best. It will be interesting to see if Calvin Johnson can get join those two along with Moss and Marshall amongst the best in the game.

He had 5 years left on a 7-year deal that also made him the highest paid WR in the league at the time. It's a freaking joke that he demanded a new deal and it's juts as big a joke that they gave it to him. Great player but at some point you have to start honoring your contract.

One thing that helped Johnson get the new deal is that he didn't hold out, didn't whine about it (much). Unlike Revis, he showed good faith and team-first attitude. You'd better believe other owners and GMs are thrilled that Johnson got rewarded this way and Revis continues to talk down his own price with his act.

If there's one player that deserves it, it's Andre Johnson. I can't imagine a better player being the face of the franchise. He keeps producing and collecting praise without reducing his work rate, and he's a model for the rest of the team. He's even taking a rookie corner under his wing.

“When I see Kareem walking around, I just go and ask him if he’s all right,” Johnson said. “You can kind of tell that he has a lot of information coming at him. A lot of installs and stuff goes on during training camp, all the offense and all of the defense. For me, being a veteran, I pretty much know the offense, so I don’t have to think as much when I’m out there, but he does.

“I just try to talk to him and keep his spirits up. You can tell his mind is wandering a little bit when you see him walking around the locker room, so I always ask him if he’s all right or if he has a question or anything. I talk to him about it, and I just let him know I am going to work him every day and I told him he is going to make me better. By us going at each other every day, it’s going to make us both better. I’m going to try to do everything I can do to make sure he is ready and be his coach.”

He has a chance to be Houston's most beloved player, above Earl Campbell.

I agree, isn't this the second time he's gotten an extension way before his deal was up? Not that he didn't deserve a huge contract, but stop taking long years when you know that you're going to be unsatisfied once all the other wideouts get more than you.

He's a great player, but he hired his uncle to be his agent. Unless Drew Rosenhaus is your uncle, that's a horrible decision.

Not that Miami players are known for their intellect...

Its all those Miami guys who started picking Rosenhaus in the first place.
