In watched the highlights of Spains destruction of Canada's B team, and Rubio's jumper is broken, it's flat out terrible. He's a magician with the ball and can get to the rack at will, but he can't shoot to save his life.

16 MINUTES....

Oh yeah, he totally sucks 8-)
When I finish a game, they ask me "how did it go? how many points did you score?", when the real question should be "what have you done today to help your team win?". - Ricky Rubio.

Oh really?

Check out 1:25.....actually check out the whole sequence starting at 1:20. Tell me if you think his shot is still flat.

C'mon. That's a horrible looking technique.

Yes, what we really love is those Slovenians hoisting up three pointers and never passing the ball. Including two alleged point guards such as Dragic and Lakovic. That's a great recipe for international success. Like today against Spain...

I don't see how that has anything to do with Ricky Rubio's horrible shooting technique.

Sometimes I wonder if the bunch of jokers on this board really follow international basketball at all or just blabber away like toddlers with their plastic toys...

Anyone following Europe's premier league, the ACB (an easy enough task, since so many games are available free of charge on ACB.com), knows perfectly that Rubio worked hard in the 2009-10 preseason to get rid of the hitch he had on his jump shot and to get simultaneously a quicker release - by moving the ball directly above his right elbow instead of bringing it in front of his nose as previously - and a better arc.

Since Barcelona won the Euroleague title, lots of fans, except the jokers on this board, have had ample opportunity to witness the change in Rubio's shooting technique. Since he showed some of that, plus the other little things this three-time winner of FIBA Europe's Young Men's Player of the Year award can do (his fourth FIBA title will be announced shortly), two days ago against Lithuania, here's a little summary of what he did in that game. Too many repeat shots, but at least there's a jumper in there:

That said, whether Rubio has a good jump shot - which he does - or not is totally a secondary question when gauging his value. As the rest of the world, including a few jokers who should know better, is about to learn.

If by joker you mean objective, then yeah, I'm guilty. His jumper has improved but it still looks pretty bad.

The jumper can look pretty bad but he is not a bad shooter, the numbers are there, he has shot this year in the same porcentage than for example George Hill from three point, with the half of shots attempted, of course, but also, the half of games played.

Oh! What do we have here! An aesthete!

Quick release. No lateral torsion whatsoever in arm movement, shoulder-elbow-wrist, from right side of face to a foot above. Fingertips touching the ball, well spread in the 'big hand' all good shooters have, correct wrist snap, release at apex of jump, decent balance even on turnarounds, correct follow-through. Pretty much by the book. Reflected in good shooting stats.

Then again, if you've learned basketball fundamentals on a video game, possibly it looks pretty bad.

Larry Bird also had a strange shot, didn't he?

You conveniently forgot to mention zero elevation which will result in getting his shot swatted into nosebleeds in the NBA.

Oh, because a player of Rubio's characteristics needs Dr. J-type elevation to get his shot off in the NBA! Ask the Timberwolves' scouting specialists what they think of that.

You really have to stop trusting those video games, Brezec...

Not Dr. J type of elevation, just SOME elevation. He could pull of the zero elevation shot if he was a 7 footer, but he's not.

well, to be honest, the background music is way better than the video (highlight) itself.
he's really a good playmaker, nice court vision and a good feel for when and how a play will develop, but the problem is that he's too slow and too unathletic by nba standards, below average to average shooter at best, poor finisher at the rim, poor midrange game and most importantly, he is not adept at creating shots for himself by taking his defender one-on-one off the dribble. if he's having trouble scoring or can't create shots for himself in the acb league, what more in the nba?

i think he might eventually develop into a solid 2nd string pg (4-7 ppg, 4-5 aassists per game) but not quite the player that you guys are hyping him up to be.
pardon my english, coz my english sux!

I don't know why people think that you have to be a scoring machine to play in the NBA. Ricky Rubio it's not that kind of player, and never will.

If you has read about Rubio before, you will know that he's hyped by his passing and defensive abilities, and that hype it's justified.

A true point guard must be dangerous in the offense, because if he dont have scoring abilities, he is easy to guard, and Rubio has that. He is not a prolific scorer and never will be, but he is just enough dangerous that he can get passing job done or score if the opportunity demands so.

Kidd or Stockton were never prolific scorers, the 1st only 4 times in his carreer scored more than 16 ppg nad Stockton only 2.
I agree that he must, and i'm sure he will, improve his shot but he's already very capable of making you pay if you leave him open.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

QFT.

Along with DX, I agree that people rating Rubio on his European statistics should probably lose their job or stop talking about European basketball.
