How the Wolves Measure Up

Post#1 » by Klomp » Mon Aug 9, 2010 4:42 am

Kahn and the Timberwolves front office are taking a long-term approach to re-building a team that won at least 50-games a season from 2001-2004 and Rambis, who was given a 4-year, $8M contract last summer, will be allowed a longer window of opportunity to turn things around in Minnesota than is normally extended to a head coach in the NBA.

Rambis understands what it takes to win at the NBA level and, as the T-Wolves continue to assemble talent, expect the former member of the Lakers 'Showtime' teams to lead Minnesota back into playoff contention in the Western Conference.

After winning just 15 games last season, the Timberwolves will have a new look in the 2010-11 NBA season. With Ridnour, Johnson, Love and Milicic all likely new additions to the starting lineup and Beasley, Webster, Telfair and Pekovic part of a new bench mob, the Timberwolves will have a much deeper, more athletic squad this season.

A playoff berth is still, at least, a year or two away, but with a great deal of financial flexibility and a roster loaded with young talent, the Minnesota faithful have plenty to look forward to.

Hoopsworld really seems to love the Wolves. If only they had more credibility...

True, but I will take the positive press wherever I can get it.

I'm surprised they think Beas will come off the bench. Sadly I don't think Love starting at PF is as set in stone as they think.

There's no doubt Love will be the starting PF ... Zero.

No doubt in your mind, perhaps. Beasley is an unknown quantity, but if he outplays Love, he starts.

Beasley is going to play SF, and I expect he will be starting there. That is the position we need him to play and he has stated that it's where he wants to play. Beas and KLove will play next to each other. Very good things are possible from this combo.

The piece sort of generally mucked up the lineup. The starting 5 should be

Ridnour (Flynn IR)
Webster
Beasley
Love
Milicic

I'm thinking they only signed Tolliver after getting a good look at Beasley by working him out and seeing how he fits in the triangle. That makes me think they envision him being more of a full time SF.

I agree, Tolliver only makes sense at that money if Beasley is the clear SF

You never know. Rambis isn't Love's biggest fan.

Wrong. Rambis has said that Love was one of the main reasons he took the job here.

That didn't stop him from benching Love last season.

That's a little narrow minded. He got benched because he and Al couldn't compete together defensively and you sure as hell don't bench the $13 million man. Love was a victim of circumstance, not spite.

I think that Rambis was trying to get Love to see how to be a professional. I think he held Love to a higher standard because he can see how good Love could really be. I think that for the most part, Love has been more talented than the players he's played against, so he hasn't worked as hard as he's needed to. That changed when he got to the NBA.

Obviously Gregg Popovich isn't Manu Ginobili's biggest fan then either.

All I'm saying is there's a possibility Love won't start this season. Nothing is set in stone until after training camp.
