If not Telfair, Who?

Post#1 » by shrink » Mon Aug 9, 2010 4:44 am

There have been many rumors since the CLE deal that Sebastian Telfair would not remain long with the Timberwolves, and a low-cost veteran would be brought in to back-up the PG position, especially with the uncertainty of Flynn's health.

Sham rcently ran through the vavailable players out there, and its worth a read

I'd put my money on Hart. He seemed to be liked here by everyone, but just got caught up in a cap-saving move.

I know they've said they're going after a veteran, but I'd rather see them go after someone younger. Someone like Trey Johnson or Jon Scheyer would fit the bill.

Earl Watson, Anthony Johnson, Antonio Daniels, Jason Hart, and Brevin Knight would all be solid vets.

Wouldn't mind them signing Kyle Weaver.

I'd like Collins. He hasn't signed anywhere?

I think they would prefer to go with an older, more experienced guy who can be a steady presence on and off the floor.
Watson and Daniels make the most sense as far as play style.

That being said, taking a flier on Weaver or Patty Mills would be nice.

I agree. Unless he's willing to give up a lot of money in a buyout, I see no point in trading him. We kept Ratliff and bought him out mid season. Why can't we do the same with Telfair?

I think the rumors about moving Telfair for a veteran PG on the minimum is (and this is just my opinion) a desire to move from a 2nd string PG top a 3rd string PG. Perhaps MIN wants a veteran guy that will ride the bench and help the younger players on the court and in the locker room. He needs to be able to play a little, because Flynn isn't guaranteed to be ready at the start of the season, but he needs to be bad enough that even though he's picking up DNP-CD's, he's still happy to be in the league, picking up a paycheck.

I really dont want to see the club buy out Telfair. That does nothing for cap space and as was mentioned earlier, it "allows" us to downgrade our 3rd PG....at an additional financial cost. If we can find a taker for Telfair contract and take back less in terms of contract or gain some sort or draft choice compensation, I say we just keep him and roll with him. If he's getting no PT by mid-season, we buy him out and he can re-sign with someone else.

I like Alston because he is also a proven winner which is what the Wolves need but I would be fine with Hart
APkrawczynski Jon Krawczynski
Durant just said Darko is one of best centers in the league. For once, I'm not being sarcastic in a tweet. #Twolves

He's a Bobcat, 2-yr deal that's not guaranteed.

He's no proven winner by any means.
