Looking for a Home for Corey Brewer

I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that Corey Brewer will be available for trade. The Wolves invested heavily in Webster, Wes Johnson, and added Beasley, Tolliver, and are looking at Joe Alexander. I simply think Brewer is going to lose his minutes.

Brewer's stats from last year won't jump out at you:

GM 82, MIN 30.3, FG 43.1%, 3P 34.6%, 3.4 RPG, 2.4 APG, 1.4 SPG, 0.4 BPG, 13.0 PPG

However, last year was a pivotal one for Brewer.

1. Coming off an injury, he played 82 games and showed he had all the explosiveness that he's ever had. Check out the disbelieving face of Derek Fisher at the end:

2. Rambis corrected a hitch in Corey Brewer's shot so he didn't shoot off-balance anymore.

John Hollinger wrote last month that Brewer might be the most improved NBA shooter ever. Even though he tosses up half-court end-of-quarter prayers every chance he gets, Brewer's shooting 35 percent from downtown, compared to 19 percent two seasons ago

. Last season he hit a three-pointer in 33 consecutive games.

3. As always, Brewer provides great defense with his quickness, length (6' 9"), and athleticism.

Corey Brewer is on the last year of a rookie deal that pays him $3.7 mil. I think he'd be a nice fit for several teams. He'd look good playing next to win-now starters who handle a lot of scoring, since he's been defending other team's best swingmen since he was a rookie. He'd be nice off the bench, causing havoc in passing lanes. At 24, he'd be a nice investment for a young team that would like to gain his rights. He'd be fun on a running team too.

Out of the names you listed

Wes Johnson - more of a SF, his handles are too suspect for SG
Webster - nice player, but nothing great
Beasley - can he effectively play SF?
Tolliver - would he really be taking away Brewer's minutes as well at SF?
Joe Alexander - should never be a reason to drop a player

IMO Brewer is the most proven and well rounded of the bunch. I also think there will be plenty of minutes for him at SG or SF. A three man rotation of Johnson/Webster/Brewer with spot minuted to Beasley at SF seems like a decent rotation.

I think Boston would be a nice fit there. Their backup wings include Wafer and Daniels....aka ewwww.

The most I could see Boston offering though is Sheed and maybe Semi Erden and perhaps Gaffney or Lafyette...Minny would maybe need to throw in Telfair in such a move. Is that enough for him though?

Orlando definitely needs a young SF that can be plugged in there to grow with Dwight, and not have turnover every year with a new SF. One that can play defense would be great too.

Sorry - I had an important phone call, and needed to rap the post up fast.

Here's what MIN would find beneficial:

1. Pick .. doesn't need playing time

2. Project .. Kahn likes upside, but again, someone that is a year away.

3. Euro .. one-to-two years before coming into the NBA

4. Cap Space: Any decrease in payroll results in more cap space for MIN, that they not only don't have to pay for, but may become a trading commodity. They are above the minimum salary with Tolliver, but remember they have until the end of the season to get above the min, or simply disperse the difference to the players on their current roter.

5. Move $2.7 mil Telfair .. better than waiving him. Including a vet-min PG that wouldn't object to DNP-CD's and could provide off-court leadership would be OK too.

6. Move $1.3 Koufos? Utah forced his inclusion in the Al Jefferson deal, and Kahn has been relatively quiet on whether they like him.

There's a lot of truth in what you've written, however MIN has certainly invested their top two 1sts to get wes Johnson and Webster. Kahn has to give them playing time. Beasley has upside, and Love deserves to start at PF, so I think that means he'll get SCB will get another attempt to play SF. Kahn's other actions (Tolliver and Alexander) seem to me to suggest that Brewer, one of the last McHale players, may be on the block.

On a cursory glance, LAC and GSW looked like places he'd be a nice fit for now and the future, and he'd be a pretty nice player on some contenders like BOS, ORL or LAL.

if this was at all appealing, that are way better offers then this, i.e. if LA wasn't already loaded at SF we can give our 1st/NY 2nd, our 1st might be even higher not by much, as the team tends to slack off a bit during the season, I'm sure Mia would have the best if not 2nd best record in the league next yr.

It is an issue, but if we could get a third team involved to back McDyess or if the Wolves are willing to take him back we could make it work.
