You are missing the point. We arent saying we NEED as a priority anything. We are saying that i a draft yoy take the best player available whenever possible...and especially when the player on the board at your pick is a no brainer. As in....doesnt matter if you need a 2 guard and you have 3 big men. If that big man is absolutely...WOW...this is THIS PICK over THAT guy...you take that guy even if you dont need him in your rotation. You can make moves later that will help your team more than if you draft a guy just to fill out a line up. Fans tend to make posts about drafts like they are talking about the off season for MLB. As in...we need a SS next year...who is the best hitting one out there.

It doesnt work that way with the NBA draft. Talent...has to be a prioirty over need...as often as possible. Do that...and your results long term will be better. The big man thing came up because clearly our best strength prospect wise at this time is we HOPE we are set for some time at the 4/5 spots. But...quality big man are the hardest thing to come by in the NBA. So if you find yourself looking at a great one on the draft board...take him...sort it out later. Athletic, big....whatever type. GET HIM. Now it goes the same way for other spots too. See Philly. They needed a big man more than they needed a wing. But they felt as did most...Evan Turner was the no brainer pick. Was...had Arenas...Wall...the no brainer pick. For us...the challenge in the next draft would conceiveably be as a big...and that was the point of where this was going.

Makes perfect sense. Thanks for the insight. :D

Man this is so early but what the hell.

Barnes appears to be the 2011 draft prize so yes I would love to have him and he would flow perfectly with the team we already have

Barnes
Favors
Lopez

Sweet frontcourt

Honestly I would rather it work out where we nab Irving (as long as he shows he can live up to the hype) and sign Melo (which recent speculation thinks he might not sign that extension).

Irving
Morrow
Melo
Favors
Lopez

6th man
T-Will

Trade Bait
Harris/Lee/Outlaw for a backup PF

LOL

He lived in my city - Belo Horizonte.
I ask a friend today and he said he was very bad. But he went to USA and work hard and looked very improved (as my friend said). He said that he looks like Andrew Bynum... He is a journalist and saw him playing once in you country,

Fabricio de Melo left Brazil very young.

In Brazil only the professional basketball is on TV. So, i never had a chance.

Unprofessional soccer games are broadcasting in tv and cable tv. But, soccer is soccer... It's like a religion.

Co-signed (including the Duke part  ).

Normally I don't evaluate players before college either, but I happened to see Kyrie play in person this January. FWIW I was more impressed with Irving when I saw him last year than I was with Tyreke Evans as a HS senior.

Yeah, he looks real good. Reminds me a lot of Chris Paul...

Look out for Cory Joseph too. He's not as heralded as Irving and Knight right now, but he's going to be really good and if he decides on one and done I have a feeling he's going to be rocketing up draft boards in no time.

Actually I don't think the Nets will be in a position to draft Barnes next summer.

I think you guys are selling yourselves a lil' short here no? Sure you didn't get any major free agents but you got Derrick Favors and added quality depth. You also have a better coach and players like Williams and Lopez will continue to improve. Devin should easily bounce back after a turrible year.

You guys will easily be better than Cleveland and Toronto that's for sure.

The draft is a lottery though, we are the poster child for not being awarded the top pick based on worst overall record.

Sure this team might overachieve as is, but I think we're likely to win somewhere in the mid twenties to about 30 games max.

We'll probably have to get lucky and make a top 3 jump, but I don't find it that far fetched.

I think both of you have excellent points.

KiddFresh,

One thing you have to keep in perspective is just how poor the Nets were last year. Even if NJ was to double last year's win total, it still would have been the 2nd worse record in the league. It wouldn't shock me if this team won like 15 more games than a year ago and are still in a position where they are among the bottom 5 teams in the league. Based on recent lottery history, that would seem to make them primed for a top 2 pick

No matter how optimistic, pessimistic or realistic you want to claim to be, we have a true shot at making the playoffs this year, maybe being this years Bucks or Bobcats.

Not especially happy about it, but if we do make the playoffs as is, it's pretty obvious we were already a 30 something win team without Murphy, so I would prefer an 8th seed and the 15th pick to literally the 13th or 14th overall pick, 12th at absolute best.

Long season and a lot then can happen, everywhere from excitement to disappointment and everywhere in between, but it is what it is and I will certainly root for this team as of right now, no matter what.

The thing I fear is a year like the final one that we had Vince Carter, where we win games in the mid thirties, a playoff contender through a good portion of the season, but fall apart due to inevitable injuries and wind up with a very late lotto pick.

Now of course you can argue T Will was the result of that and he has a very good chance of blowing up, but history is consistently in favor of role players if not busts with these type of picks.

We shall see...
