Re: Wolves Sign Tolliver
I see Ellington getting a few guaranteed minutes. Maybe not every game, but often. He's got too much upside as a shooter, and he drives to the basket surprisingly well. You could see in Summer League that they wanted him to really start viewing himself as an all-around scorer. I think that will carry over into the regular season.
Of course, with Wes and Martell, we actually have some guys who can shoot the 3, which is a big difference from last year. All the same, I still see Wayne being a legit NBA 2-guard off the bench, and he has good handles... I think he gets some minutes this year.
It will be interesting to see how much burn Tolliver gets. It certainly gives us the option of having Beas be solely a SF. It seems like Wes' minutes are guaranteed around 25, which has got to be something of an optimal max for a rookie adapting to an 82 game season.

Re: Wolves Sign Tolliver
Early in the year I could see Ellington get some time at PG.

I was thinking he could as well. In the triangle sets we run from time to time we don't need a point guard as much as some other teams. Ellington should be able to guard most nba pgs.

If Ellington was seen as an option at PG I'm guessing we would have seen him get some minutes there during summer league.
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''

That sounds right, but not necessarily. The Summer League team couldn't have been fully up to speed on Rambis' system. The other players would have been much more dependent on a traditional PG.
Also, I would guess there were other things that they wanted Ellington to work on.

Re: Wolves Sign Tolliver
It would not be unreasonable to think Ellington can get some minutes up top in this offense ... not so much as a play-maker as floor spacer. His ball-handling is merely average for a SG, but certainly adequate in a passing offense.
It's a long season and this franchise needs to learn how to play more aggressive over 48 minutes ... mentally and physically ... especially whern your so young. This squad will actually have reasonable depth and skill, then add the number of players who have the diversity to play 2-3 positions for even a couple minutes per game is huge.

Flip response to Love wanting out, "He has no reason to be upset, you're either a part of the problem or a part of the solution"

I might buy that if Lawrence Westbrook hadn't run the point when Pargo came off the floor (and even Pargo isn't exactly a traditional PG). Westbrook spent 0 time at PG with the Gophers, and the only thing traditional about him at the position is his height.
If Ellington was seen as an option at PG, don't you think that would have been among the things they wanted him to work on?

Who started the redonkulous Ellington at the point idea? If you watched summer league you saw that even Hayard was more comfortable handling the ball.

Nice vid, cheers Klomp. But is anyone else a little worried that every other video of Tolliver has him getting posterized by one person or another?

I think it's a good thing. Shows he goes for the block. Doesn't give up. Most players wouldn't even make a play on the ball in some of those situations.

It'd be nice to see him get one though
