Do the raptors have a bright future?

Post#1 » by MNM-23 » Mon Aug 9, 2010 11:26 pm

I'm just analyzing teams that may potentially miss the playoffs this year, and I feel that T.O definately has a brighter future compared to these teams.
I would take a core of Demar/Sonny/Ed Davis/Bargnani/Amir/ over Indianas (Granger/Hibbert/George), Detriot (Stuckey/CV/Gordon) and others anyday.

With the financial flexibility we have within the next few years, we once again are given an opportunity to be properly built (Dont f*** it up this time BC).

What we lack is star PG (whom hopefully we can acquire in a draft (Irving) or potentially trade for and sign in an offseason in the future). But overall, if Demar and Ed Davis continue building on their game, we may have a bright future afterall.

Demar/Sonny/Ed Davis/Bargnani/Amir are all mediocre players at best. People on this board drastically overestimate the ability of the draft to turn a team into a championship contender.

Overall, I would say not really.

I say after next years draft, if we make out with a top player like Barnes/Irving/Jones, we have a pretty bright future.

I hate to sound negative, but i don't t really see a bright future here at this point..

(other than perhaps DD) Davis, Bargs, Weems, Alabi, Johnson isn't anything special in terms of a young core..
I don't expect any of them to be all- stars once in there careers.. our team needs to start tanking big time so they could get the young prized prospects they need to be something special. for this reason i hope we finish dead last next season

Well... you're right, I guess David and DD aren't mediocre yet in the grand scheme of things... but they have the potential to BECOME mediocre.

Bargs is already at that level and will probably stay there or gradually regress.

Not right now. We're gonna need some more lottery picks. Specifically something in the top 3 if we plan on making the playoffs some time in the next 5 years.

We will find out definitely in the future. :)
Until then, it's best to believe that the Raps do have a bright future.

No in respect to the rest of the league. Our young players are just good/decent, nothing special. There aren't that many teams I wouldn't swap situations with tbh.

you dont expect bargs to be an all-star? if youre throwing up numbers like he is, even if youre team is half decent, you have a decent shot at being an all-star ala david lee, chris kaman

Really, who knows until we see how they play this year.

I love the young core, but these things are hit and miss. We wont know how this team will be in the future until we get a good long look at them.

We might know by the half way point, when teams start adjusting to how we play. If we can fight through it, we might have something. If not, keep trying.

they certainly do, they just need to rebuild properly and hopfully land on some real talent by draft. Also keep working on dd,amir, and ed davis.

it's all guesswork at this point, but it could work out nicely. I really like what I've seen from Ed Davis and I doubt VERY much he is 'mediocre at best'- I think he will have a chance to be a Horford/Pj Brown type down the road which is excellent. Demar can be an all star one day. Bargnani? I guess we'll find out this season, but if nothing else he will become smarter on both ends and has the type of game which will probably not regress much well into his thirties.

Best case scenario is a high draft pick PG this season (possibly flipped for Rubio?) + TPE on a salary dump (Marvin WIlliams if the Hawks fall off the map?) or to move up in draft + massive cap space spent on Marc Gasol perhaps.

Add to that when you consider how young all the pieces we alrady have are- How is that not a bright future? I'll take it.

I say no currently.
We don't even have anyone who looks like he's going to be better than Bosh.
Maybe DeMar will change that or next year's draft pick will
