PT for the Squad
I took a pass at putting together a PT chart for the squad as currently compromised and come to some interesting conclusions. Duds really may have a hard time getting PT, Janning is cannon fodder, Clark may not crack the rotation as currently constituted. Part of that will depend on how much commitment the staff have on getting Warrick time. I think he will also need to get time at the 3/4 spots along with Turk. If Duds get moved, I could see Warrick getting moved into the starting lineup as the best around finisher on the club. Anyway, thought I would put it out there for everybody

Are you assuming Jared Dudley is going to be traded? Because he is one of our best role players and will easily get 20 minutes per game this season

I know what you are saying, but where do those minutes come from? One of the newly minted, more expensive contracts of Chill, Turk or Warrick? Those minutes have to come from somewhere. I am not assuming he will , but that is kind of where the numbers have led me. I just don't see 20 minutes in there for him anymore

Re: PT for the Squad
So Dudley goes from playoff hero who won games on his own for his energy, he goes from being one of the better 3point shooters in the league, to... zero minutes. Well. That makes no sense.

Damn those numbers! It like you had no control over them!
PLEASE TELL ME YOURE NOT SERIOUS
p.s. Warrick will not get any minutes at SF
p.p.s. Neither will Frye
p.p.p.s. Youre on my watch list with this and the Melo thread...

Re: PT for the Squad
I'll go with
Nash 31
JRich 31
Hill 22
Turkoglu 33
Lopez 28
---
Dudley 16
Childress 16
Warrick 16
Dragic 17
Frye 24
Lawal 6
Clark/Janning mopups
Obviously there's going to be some nights JRich or Nash log 40mins +, but I think that's what's ideal
I see another deal coming sooner rather than later though...not enough minutes for players that deserve it. Warrick would be the logical guy to move, for a bigger body...Not til Dec though right?
Maybe someone like Nick Collison...
Nash 31

Re: PT for the Squad
I don't want to see Dudley go, but you have to figure that Chill, who will likely be very effective and is on a contrac that costs twice as much will be looking to get some real burn. I love Duds and don't want to see him go, but we have a lot of very good athletic 3's now that will give Dudley's athletic hands a run for the money.
PPPPSSSSPPPSSSS.....lol I'm on your watch list? LOL. Not sure what that means, but should I be scared? Yes I came up with the minutes, and yes I love the guy, but if I'm the coach, and take out loyalty from the equation, add a dose of financial reality from the FO, then newly minted bigger contracts get minutes, even if the people they are playing ahead of have athletic hands.

Also, the minutes for Frye are at PF and C not SF. 4 minutes at PF and 18 at C

Re: PT for the Squad
I did this in another thread ... went something like:
C - Lopez: 23/Frye: 25*
PF - Hedo: 30/Warrick: 18**
SF - Hill: 20/Dudley: 23/JChill: 5 (23 overall)
SG - JRich: 30/JChill: 18
PG - Nash: 29/Dragic: 19
*Lawal sees mins when injuries/foul trouble occur
** Clark sees mins when injuries/foul trouble occur
Very even spread of mins with most falling in the 18-25mpg category. Someone could quite easily get squeezed for mins if they don't perform.
C - Lopez: 23/Frye: 25*
PF - Hedo: 30/Warrick: 18**
SF - Hill: 20/Dudley: 23/JChill: 5 (23 overall)
SG - JRich: 30/JChill: 18
PG - Nash: 29/Dragic: 19

Yeah, get rid of those minutes, give them to Dudley, and you've semi sorted out the problem.

Re: PT for the Squad
Yeah I hope we do find minutes for him, but I think it will be tough. Several of these have Dragic minutes going down and Chills minutes under 20. I think it will be very hard to keep Chill at under 20 minutes per game personally, and that combined with Turk's natural 3 position is what grabbed minutes away from Duds in my go around above in the OP. We'll see how it all pans out, I am sure.
Here are a few considerations I took into account:
Lopez's play showed he deserved more time
Dragic's play show he deserved more time
Dudley's play show he deserved more time...but his position is STACKED with 2 new good players
To get Dragic's minutes up you need to further reduce Nash's load and/or add minutes at shooting guard. If he gets minutes at shooting guard those minutes will come from Richardson and Chill. Richardson played very well for us, and Chill has a newly minted $35 million contract along with great skills. Both of these guys will get their minutes. To do that they may need to take minutes at the 3, which makes things very crowded at the 3 spot. Hill, Duds and Clark return but now have Turk and Chill, and even Warrick who can play that position in addition. Hill will stay at about 20-25 minutes as a starter, now its a question of who do you short-change on minutes...Dudley has played great, but has physcial limitations with speed and athleticism. Chill has length, speed and athleticism (but not strength or athletic hands
along with a rich new contract that is more than double that of Duds. Plus Turk has great skill at the position at an even more expensive contract rate. Turk may need time at the 3 to help distribute for Warricks minutes at the 4, or even Frye's minutes at the 4. Plus then you have Lawal's standout performance at the Summer League that would need to be considered for time. All of that and Lopez should probably climb to 30 minutes per game to keep his growth moving, eating into Frye's time and his new contract. I really think someone will get squeezed or somebody from last years club outside of Clark will get less minutes, or we will see another trade. If I were the coach or in the FO, I would begrudgingly probably look at Jared Dudley's minutes, even though I love his play.

Re: PT for the Squad
Do you think we can go to a more smallball line up occasionally, Nash-Dragic-J-Rich-Hedo-RoLo(Warrick)
that would be quite a run'n gun team, and pretty hard to defend both in full court and half court games. Though it is obviously not a good defensive line-up, I feel it can be used in certain points of games.

We used Raja Bell at the 3 often during SSOL, and JRich is more than capable of handling most SFs in the game.

Re: PT for the Squad
Ok all. There has to be some things we don't know about going on in the front office (a trade of 2 for 1 or something like that) or they have already talked to everyone about playing time that makes everyone happy. They wouldn't have signed Warrick and Chill (and trade Barbs for Turk), if they didn't have a master plan. With the ages of Nash and Hill, it's almost a certainty that they will see less minutes during the regular season and some off days so that they are well rested and healthy for the playoffs. Yes, Dragic and Dudley have definitely made themselves worthy of more minutes. Dragic will get more at the point, as well as Turk playing some point/forward as well to rest Nash. With our glut of swingmen, resting Hill will be easier and less of an issue throughout the season.
