It's moot. McGuire will sign.

Also, i guess it would push our regular pick down as well. So if we finish say 16th worst and would normally get the 16th pick, and under the scenrio noted above, does our regular pick slip to 22?
Also, what if teams drafting below us don't sign their first rounders, do they get a pick as well? So our regular pick of say 16 that has already dropped to 22 could fall to like 30 or so if a bunch of 1st rounders hold out?
Anybody know how all this works/
That's correct. However, there's only one player unlikely to sign: Loux at 6, whose arm is screwed.
That said, we'll sign McGuire. While I didn't like the pick, and while I think that next year's draft will be better, unprotected picks are not desirable...even with a nearly-unlimited draft budget, you have to play it safe because any agent worth their weight will try to bend you over unless you're seriously overdrafting their client.

**** your asterisk.

thanks Schazz. Good to know how this works and glad everyone seems confident Deck will sign. I don't think he's the fireballer we like to see, but sounds like he's got a good 4 pitch repetoire to work from. Add in some ML coaching and he may surprise to the upside.

Well, there's really no such thing as too many major league-quality starters, and McGuire should be that. My Sally Boner is still in full effect, but signing McGuire is better than not signing McGuire.

Just need to teach him how to achieve some more movement on the fastball and he could be dynamite. The pitching coaches in the system are influential in the way things work out as long as there is some basic talent to work with and that would seem to be the case here.

Toronto is known to be willing to exceed the “slot” bonus guidelines set by Major League Baseball.
