Nets Fan Here, Care To Tell Me Some Things About Murphy?

Post#1 » by SOUP » Wed Aug 11, 2010 8:51 pm

I´ve always found Murphy to be a very underrated guy, I see he is a great rebounder and can spread the floor, but you guys obviously know more about him than I do, care to tell me some key things?

Congrats on getting Collison and thanks in advance.

You'll love him if you simply allow him to be what he is. He's a jump shooting PF with great range, and a knack for rebounding. People will argue that he inflates his stats by stealing rebounds from teammates, but just ignore that. He's not a "good" defender, but he's very serviceable in a team defense system. He won't be able to shut anyone down defensively, or take over a game offensively, but he'll put up 15/10 EVERY night. Sure, some nights he may give up 20/12, but more often than not, he's a positive for your team.

He's a team player. He'll do whatever you ask him to do. Want him to play center? He'll do it. He won't be able to do it WELL due to talent/size limitations, but he'll do it for the best of the team and he'll give it his all.

There were never any questions about his effort, intensity, or dedication in Indy, which was welcomed greatly after our era with JO, Stephen Jackson, Artest, Tinsley, and Harrington.

good scorer. gets rebounds although often at the expense of teammates. not a great defender particular when matched against players who can drive. can play center in small ball lineups as well as power forward in bigger lineups.

He steals rebounds and doesn't afraid of anything.

He's a nice player. He should never be the focal point of your frontcourt, but he's definitely a nice complimentary piece in any lineup. He'll stretch the floor at the 4, and occasionally drive to the rim. Defensively, he's not great, but I wouldn't say he's necessarily a liability either.

1. He IS a liability on D.
2. He thinks he is Reggie Miller. He is NOT. Think Donyell Marshall.
3. You will like him until your team is playin lower than you would hope.
4. You will be glad he is an expiring.
5. Brook Lopez will be in a lot of foul trouble.

Warriors fan here, Murphy is a productive rebounder, he likes to shoot more than anything. He shoots three and pretty accurate too.

One thin he is lack of is physical contact and defensive mind to alter shot.
Not a good center but a decent/above average PF IMO.

Pair him with Lopez is a good move for the Nets.

Lets go Pacers. You guys think you have a shot at the play-offs now or what????? Would be great to knock the Knicks out of it.

Very underrated player, I wanted the Cavs to acquire him last season instead of Jamison. I think the Cavs beat Boston if they have Murph instead of Jamison.
much respect to the 2011-2012 champions, Miami Heat, well deserved

I think the Cavs could've beat Boston if Lebron didn't mail it in.

How is his post defense? Murphy has always struck me as a wide body / space eater, which is something I've wanted next to Lopez since Brook has excellent reach and timing on his block attempts, he's not the most athletic player in the world but you give him a little bit of time and he'll alter a shot.

He's a body out there. That's about it. He's about as close to "ole" defense as can get.

I lie. I wouldn't say he's awful. I would say he tries, which is a good start. He's just not particularly strong, quick, or adept at post defense. He fits a team defense concept very well, but he's not going to do anything against a solid post offensive player.

I'm gonna miss Murphy. I thought he's staying in Indy but in a deal like this, its understandable.
A double double guy with legit range, he's a rare breed.
