Somewhat surprised that they would. Aren't any bullpen innings to go around, so it would have to be a move where they're resting the current crop of starters.

Maybe they plan on shutting down one of Marcum/Romero/Cecil/Morrow and Drabek would replace one of them. That would be a good move. Then we start next season with a rotation of Marcum/Romero/Morrow/Cecil/Drabek.

I have a feeling they'll go to a six-man rotation if Drabek gets called up, which I'm not opposed to at all. The more rest, the better.

Hmm, interesting.

The problem is all these damn complete game shutouts/near no-nos our starters are pitching. Cito has to expand the rotation sooner than later.

Good idea. Throw him into the fire and tell him to just pitch. This team is not making the playoffs with the teams we have to leapfrog. Also gives Morrow, Romero, Cecil and Marcum the rest they need to be fresh for next season.
That's what she said.

Think I heard it on one of the 3 sports stations (Score/TSN/Sportsnet) that they were looking at going with a 6 man rotation, which isn't a bad idea.

Would Drabek not be in the same position as our other starters? Limited innings down the stretch. I know he pitched 156 last year but coming back from injury prior. If so, it sounds plausible to have a six-man rotation.

I'd prefer to see Rzep get starts than Drabek, even though I like Drabek as a prospect more. Rzep is senior and demonstrated he belongs last year. You don't just throw a guy that many scouts say has similar or even better stuff than Cecil into a bullpen roll.

If two spots open up, sure, call Drabek up.

Bring up Zip and Drabek, drop Mills, and have the six man rotation to evaluate. Mills, with an 86 mph fastball and no outstanding movement, is just not a major league pitcher. Let's get on with the future already.

yeah...8 to 2 lead and all he has to do is get thru the 5th to lock in a sure win, and he couldn't even do that. Very unimpressive.

You don`t give up on a guy who posted a 4.22 ERA in a hitter`s paradise (the AAA PCL) after one bad outing, particularly after he shutout a major league team over seven innings (yes, Baltimore still counts as a major league team). Especially when the bad outing was reportedly under trying circumstances (as relayed by Cito, who praised Mills for his second outing. It may be that Mills`stuff won`t translate to the majors. Well, now is the time to find out.

I would expand to a 6-man rotation with Rzep and Mills getting the 5th and 6th spots. In the remaining two months, let`s see what we have in both of these guys, and potentially up their trade value. Let Drabek earn the 5th spot next year (which I expect he will) in spring training.

If it's a 6 man rotation I'm all for it, but think it's more a reward for his good play and to give him a taste. Or maybe it's to give the fans a taste of the future. Either way, would rather they just bring back Marc Rzepczynski.

I am willing to give up on Mills based on what I have seen from him in his four major league starts - three of which he got rocked, the other against Baltimore. In those games he showed no major league velocity or movement.

There is a price to leaving Drabek in AA as well. Namely, he doesn't get the jitters out this year, he doesn't learn the hitters or the expectations of the pitching coach this year, etc... If we want Drabek to be ready to go next year, we should work out the kinks in the remaining days of this year.

Giving up on Mills after 4 starts, especially after he's been impressive in the minors, is dumb. Stop being dumb augustine.

why?
you give Drabek a taste at the bigs.
let him get kicked around a bit.
would much rather that he learn and take his licks this year and not if he's the 5th starter next year.
the only reason why I'd support Drabek staying in the minors is if he still needs to work on his pitches. the bigs, natch, aren't a place to work on things
