what a bunch of a-holes....I think Brad Jones is a real nice back-up which is good for a 2nd year 7th round pick, he is not special, he could improve but he is what he is. It is absolutely RIDICULOUS to say Bishop is a quality back-up when he has done absolutely nothing in the opportunities he was given...for one big hit on Peterson , he has been burned by the like of Taylor and Owen Danieals...easily. Say I am negative all you want, but I am not a blind homer...I think this is a very good team and should compete for the NFC championship, but they have BIG holes in the LB position and the back-ups at that position...I like the D-line and even like the backfield a little, although there are concerns there as well...............to tell me that Bishop is a real good back-up...prove it, what has he done when given the opportunity.

I don't buy that Jones is only a "really nice backup." With his added weight and his experience in a similar system, I don't see much of a reason to pigeon hole him that way. Despite Chillar getting reps at ROLB, I don't see any reason to write of Jones as merely a backup.

As for MLB, I see Chillar as the primary backup still so whatever Bishop brings is just a bonus.

We are pretty deep at LB if Chillar can play both OLB and ILB and I happen to think he can.

We have 5 LBs ranging from great to solid to developing - 4 starters & a 5th man who can play all spots.
Hawk sits on passing downs.
Whatever we get from Bishop is gravy.
Bishop only factors for PT if injury - then as a backup.

It's ridiculous to say Bishop is a quality BACKUP LB? Do you ever read what you write? That is ridiculous. The team has possibly ONE hole at LB, that is one OLB spot IF Brad Jones does not perform up to expectations. Hawk, Barnett, Matthews are all very solid to great starters. You don't end up top half in sacks and the #1 run D in YPC allowed if you have poor LB's, regardless of DL play. Do we need to bring more pressure on the QB? Yes. But the overall play was good last year and will hopefully be even better this year.

I'm calling big years from both Barnett and Hawk. If I'm wrong, come and find me.

I'll find your ass don't worry....even the biggest Packer homer isn't dumb enough to call Barnett or Hawk great, although you left a canyon of conjecture between very solid and great...I am a huge Matthews fan and wouldn't call him great after 1 very good year.....I will go so far as to say if Bishop is forced to start due to injury, this defense is in huge trouble...not only did Finley humiliate him during family night....the likes of Lee and Crabtree have been getting the best of him in coverage the past couple weeks. The thought of Hawk and Bishop playing together, trying to defend the pass is truly frightening. I also think it is funny to pooh pooh the fact they have a hole at OLB......I will admit Chillar is an intriguing prospect, but weighing in around 230 is is a little scary.

But Bishop isn't starting, unless there is injury. You're talking about him as a starter when he isn't one. That is what makes no sense. I understand the fret on OLB depth and the OLB starter opposite Matthews, it is pretty obvious, but to say the LB corps overall is poor is not accurate.
