I bet Zeke pushed for Jennings....

Post#1 » by Johnny Hoops » Thu Aug 12, 2010 2:53 pm

I could see a scenario where Zeke was in Dolan's ear saying "Jimmy - you guys should be taking Jennings - he's the most dynamic talent in the draft".

Then Donnie goes and takes Hill --- Dolan sees Jennings take off and thinks damn Zeke knows talent.

The crazy thing is Jennings really thought he would be a Knick on draft night when it was our turn to select.

I actually like the idea of Zeke drafting for us -- I tend to like the players he seems to like.

I think Donnie is GREAT because he's a lawyer -- is a business man in the truest sense of the word and he's also the most patient GM I've ever seen. In terms of being a talent evaluator --- I'm not 100% sold on Donnie in that department.

At some level -- I do think Zeke playing a role of talent evaluator (draft guru) wouldn't be bad ---- but we all know Zeke would want more.

It doesn't matter though...Walsh'Toni were never looking at Jennings. He came with a reputation of a headcase, many called him Marbury 2.0. Their main objective has been to change the face of the franchise, not being doomed to repeat it. They weren't going to risk the PR if Jennings blew up in their face. Not to mention how they've stated that every move they've made has been with LeBron James in mind. Jennings isn't necessarily the ideal PG next to him.

If it's a loud mouth, shoot first, poor percentage PG, then rest assured Zeke wanted him. Just look at the guys he brought in as guards here.

Jennings was pretty much forced to be one of the Bucks offensive options last year before they got Salmons. Who else in their lineup would be a shot taker other than Bogut? Delfino? Mbah a Moute? Ilyasova? Charlie Bell?

Once they got Salmons Jennings' shots per game went from 15-16 shots a game to 12-13 shots a game. A more reasonable number for a 20 year old rookie PG.

Of course he did

Zeke would put out a team of 5 point guards who are undersized and dont pass if he had the option

And the worries about Jennnings being a total douchbag? That never seems to be an issue for Zeke. No sir!

Of course Jennings, clearly one of the best young PGs in the Universe, has be to be overrated and crazy, all because Walsh whiffed on him.

He shoots a bad percentage? Yeah, and so does Ray Felton for 3 million more a year.

Man, this board is gonna be some pure hypocritical COMEDY this season, as they Knicks KEEP losing, Jennings AND LOPEZ keep getting better and Houstons takes the Knicks top 5 pick in June.

There will be nothing but excuses and bizarre new ways of blaming Isiah.

I think Isiah's big mistake was being impatient.

He traded expirings and 2 unprotected picks for Marbury.

a year later, Baron Davis was asquired by expirings alone. The curry trade, also, was a high price for a gifted but unproven player.

Now, I completely understand that NY had expirings in that 03-04 season that they wanted to use, but they also had a lotto pick (granted it was a weak draft)

and the 04-05 season, after a nice little 2nd round pick in Ariza, but a 33-49 season, I'm not sure that was the time to give away unprotected picks for Eddy Curry.

coulda rebuilt, and if Isiah had rebuilt instead of doing the Marbaby/Chuby trades, we might all love the guy now.

I heard Isiah would have invented a time machine and drafted himself. All this Isiah talk just needs to stop.

I mean didnt Isiah say he would take Frye #1 and Curry #1 in the Roy/Aldridge draft?

I wanted to take your post seriously so I went and looked at the numbers.

Felton: 46% FG, 39% 3FG.
Jennings: 37% FG, 37% 3FG.

I don't think they are even close. Now if you want to compare their rookie years, that is fair (ie 39% vs. 37%), but we are not getting a rookie to run our offense. We are getting a player who learned the position.

I'm here to keep history from being re-written. Layden has been let off the hook Pre-Isiah and I'll be damned if Walsh is gonna be let off the hook Post-Isiah, especially considering he was in a perfectly ideal position to steer the Knicks in the right direction, and all he's done is draft poorly and over pay Amare and Felt-on...and trade Jeffries and try to get him back.

And everybody wants to keep pretending he's solving all the problems...because some contracts expired. Um, you didn't have to pay those guys, so why get all up in arms about it. WORRY ABOUT GETTING SOME GOOD PLAYERS AND BUILDING A TEAM!

Walsh is failing and the RECORD will reflect that.

Polluting a team with a bonehead is the Isiah thing to do, I agree.

Uh huh...we'll see who you'd rather have in about 3 months. It won't be Felt-on. And Jennings won't be a rookie either.

I don't know why people automatically assume this. While here, Isiah didn't really take risks in the draft. When he had a chance to take a risk on a high school prospect (Bynum), he opted for the 6'10 junior from Arizona (Frye).

Well Felton did have a gigantic increase in his shooting percentages last year in his contract year, the years before he put up:

39.1%/35.8%
38.4%/33.0%
41.3%/28.0%
40.8%/28.5%
