Steve Kerr: Suns Got "Really Close" To Getting Curry

Post#1 » by The Diesel » Wed Aug 11, 2010 1:01 pm

Hey guys,

Steve Kerr was on Bill Simmons' radio show on ESPN.com yesterday and he confirmed that the Suns got "really close" to getting Stephen Curry from Golden State in a trade which would have sent Amare to the Warrriors for Curry/Biedrins/Brandon Wright.

This is the first confirmation we've had about that rumored deal.

It's a good interview which is one hour long on the ESPN NBA page.

Just thought you would be interested in this.

He said they saw Curry as the third best player in the draft and thought he would be Nash's eventual replacement as the franchise PG of the team.

Everyone knew that. It was nellie who backed out on the trade in the last minute. But pretty much everyone including Amare knew it was basically a done deal.

But it's the first time Kerr has ever confirmed that this deal got really close.

I think now would be the time to debut my Steph Curry sig.

It's my first Photoshop fireball...I'm pretty sure it's garbage, but I'm sticking with it for now anyway

BTW--If anyone has tips on how to make my image smaller without distorting it, let me know. I'd hate to know my sig is an eyesore for people here.

Cool sig - now if you can just resize it to fit within the 90 pixels high x 400 pixels wide sig limit it would be even better :D

That's the limit so you can probably just size the image down a bit without distorting it. Sorry!

EDIT: oops you beat me to it. In photoshop crap I can't remember without looking but I think its under Image-->Image Size (it's something-->image size), just make sure "constrain proportions" is on and adjust it til it's below 400 x 90

Good work though!

Cool, thanks for the info!

BTW, regarding the thread topic---Nelly does many things that make me scratch my head, but he made the right choice by keeping Curry. IMO, Steph Curry, Steve Nash and Deron Williams are the best combination of playmaking/shooting in the NBA. That type of unassisted shooting efficiency off the dribble--with range-- isn't easy to find. Especially when you factor his play-making into the equation. He's just a natural.

Yeah that would have been nice if it happened but reguardless the deal wasn't going to go through with the Warriors. Even if they didn't backout Amare said he wouldn't have signed an extention with them. I think the bigger mistake was not trading Amare to the Wizards when they were offering the #5 pick and Jamison for Amare because I'm sure they would rather have had one year of Amare than Mike Miller..., could have drafted Curry and traded Jamison to Cle like he was this year. What could have been...

A Curry/Dragic backcourt over the next few years would be terrific but sweeping the Spurs was worth it. Same thing with Hickson, i want him here bad but it prevents us from a Spurs sweep and WCF run.

I think the deal breaker was Curry himself. Warriors didn't think he was going to fall to them. When he did, that changed everything.

Wonder how bringing in Beans and Curry would've impacted Goran and Robin's growth.

this doesn't surprise me a bit even if it never got out in the press like it did. It just falls into place perfectly with the consistent mistakes the front office has made over the years.

Its the not front office's fault if the other team pussies out at the last minute...

Dang, was that the offer? Ya know, back then we probably could've gotter McGee or Blatche... DAYUM.

If only that pick was number 4... Dragic/Evans/Dudley/Blatche or Hickson/Lopez...

I'm sure the suns front office could have done something to sweeten the deal. Imagine getting Curry and Biedrins. That's like a dream for this team. Now we lost Amare and what do he have to show for it? I think i'm gonna hurl.

The deal was done. Agreed on. The Suns even started making Curry and Biedrin's jerseys. Then Big Don had a panic attack and pulled out. Act of a true great of the game.....

I don't think this supposed deal ever got that far in terms of advanced talks.

Return to Phoenix Suns
