WHY FOR HOU? After yesterday's trade, wyn has HOU at about $3 mil over the lux. Clearing this cap space will save HOU:

$4.2 mil less payroll
$3 mil less lux
$3 mil in keeping lux share
$10.2 mil in savings

HOU could go out and buy some later picks with cash. They won't want to trade the 2011 1st, since they have the rights to swap picks with NYK from last year's deal to get said Jared Jeffries. Telfair will have a little more value than Jeffries:

WHY FOR MIN? Buying a future lottery protected 1st. $4.2 mil in cap space is more expensive than $3 mil in cash, but the pick could easily be in the teens, depending on Yao, and could grow to something even better.

Another option would be Chuck Hayes + Patrick Patterson. I like Patterson, but he doesn't fit here.

Sold. I would take that trade every day of the week. Any deals that involve the Wolves paying a player for a season to ride the pines that nets us a future 1st rounder I'm on board with. With our impending loss of our 2012 1st rounder, any deals that give us some flexibility that year I'm behind. Players for players don't do much for me because we quite frankly don't need any more young players that need time to develop. I'd like any further changes to the roster to be financial juggling and net us draft choices.

In this case, it's hard to say if Houston is hungry enough to shed salary to where they would give up future 1st rounders, but I would consider this a coup if they get it done.

Yeah Houston is not going to give up a 1st rounder for a third string PG. Maybe a 2nd rounder but I would still doubt that. Those 2012 picks that the Rockets have, Jeffries and whatever other assets will be used to try and land a big name player.

No, they are giving up a lottery-protected 1st round pick for over $10 mil in savings. Anything they get out of Telfair is a bonus. With the cash, perhaps they buy two later 1sts, and still saave $4 mil.

Easy yes from MN. Can see why fans of Houston wouldn't be interested and could see concern of Houston in regards to team future. Still, 10 million in savings for a deferred 1st rounder, hard to pass up.
