Hi Pacers fans, would you consider this B.Rush trade idea?

Post#1 » by SimonFish » Thu Aug 12, 2010 6:33 am

Just wondering.

Bulls trade: James Johnson
Bulls receive: Brandon Rush, Sasha Vujacic

Lakers trade: Sasha Vujacic, 2011 1st, NYK 2011 2nd
Lakers receive: James Johnson

Pacers trade: Brandon Rush
Pacers receive: Lakers 2011 1st, NYK 2011 2nd

Why for the Bulls:
Rose/Watson
Brewer/Rush/Bogans
Deng/Korver/Vujacic
Boozer/Taj
Noah/Thomas/Asik

Getting a solid 3 point sparks off bench without sacrificing any picks. Vujacic would most likely get DNP-CDs before he expires next off-season, or his contract can be flipped along with other players during trade deadline for a legit star.

Why for Lakers:
Fisher/Blake/Brown
Kobe/Barnes/Brown
Artest/Barnes/Ebanks/Johnson
Gasol/Odom/Johnson
Bynum/Gasol/Ratliff

Dumping Vujacic's contract to lower their payroll. With Walton injured for the whole season and the Josh Powell leaving the team, Johnson can backup both SF and PF spots.

Why for Pacers:
Collison/Price/Stephenson
George/Jones/Stephenson
Granger/Dunleavy/Posey
Hansbrough/McRoberts/Rolle
Hibbert/Foster/Jones

Help "unjam" their wings. Getting a late 1st and a mid 2nd is a solid return for B.Rush.

Thoughts?

Not in a million years. One of the last picks in the draft - usually is negative value, because you give guaranteed money to someone who's not too good, and a random 2nd. No reason whatsoever.

Pacers would have to have a really good reason to help out a team we are much closer competing with now. This isn't even close on that meter.

We would basically be recieving pick 27-30 and pick 40-45 for a guy we drafted (via portland) at 13. I doubt we could that kind of value in return for him that far down next seasons draft

I'd have to think no at this point. I'd think Dahntay Jones could be had for an expiring.

No I don't like this, Scott is right maybe we'll send a pick and expiring for a decent PF.

Or we just wait it out. If we can't get a guy that actually helps us now, and in the future, let's just be patient. Playing Hansbrough, McRoberts, and Rolle may hurt us now, but it will most likely help us in the future. Even if we figure out that they're just not the answers or fits for our team, we'll learn early and be in a better position to cut bait and run.

Isn't that a bit of a gamble? McRoberts I like, I wish he got more time but Hansbrough is injured and hasn't proved much so far, if it doesn't work out we'll be sitting here thinking "Why did'nt we trade Dahntay??". It could help us in the future, sure, but that's like saying I may or may not get an STD with a hooker. 'Eh, bad example. :o

Oh, I'm sure we'll look to deal Dahntay. I think Rush essentially can make him unnecessary. Thus, dealing Dahntay for either an equal contract or an expiring guy at PF would help us.

What I'm arguing against is making a rash move for someone like Elton Brand with our expirings. Or something similar. Andrei Kirilenko, Brandon Bass, possibly Paul Millsap. Those are guys to target. They could either be luxury tax casualties, or be swapped for better positional fits.

Is AK-47 worth aquiring these days? I think hes only a shadow of his former self from 2-3 years ago. What kind of contract is Bass on these days? I love the guy but magic put him on a sizeable contract didnt they?

Bass has a 3 year/$12 million deal. He's a flat $4 million a year. We could get him using our new TPE and the rights to Andrew Betts, and possibly a couple hundred thousand dollars.

Orlando just matched a lucrative offer to JJ Reddick, and they seemed to agree that Bass was not the PF they really wanted. I think he'd be a great low cost option to get, and we would still have the ability to throw max money at someone like Horford, or still make a trade offer on some long-term answer at PF next offseason.

^^ absolutely then. I loved watching bass come off the bench in dallas. The guy plays with a lot of aggression which is something we have missed at PF for some time

I"ve heard that Bass has trouble grasping offenses. It was a problem in Dallas, that's why they let him walk. It was also the main reason why he didn't get on the floor more in Orlando last year. If this is a realistic criticism of his game I gotta think he would struggle here too.

Fantastic i think he would be perfect under Obie, his offense is easy to grasp....rain 3's all day.

Return to Indiana Pacers
