The Official Nets + Wolves + Friends Build-A-Team Thread
NOTE: ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO REGISTER FOR THE FORUMS @:
BUILDATEAM.FREEFORUMS.ORG
http://buildateam.freeforums.org/index.php
---
Simulation Basics:
1. Create an account (preferably with the same name as you are using on RealGM) on http://www.buildateam.freeforums.org, this will be the official forum for the simulation and your one stop place for finding player statistics, salary information, etc. (all major announcements will also be posted on RealGM). Just a suggestion for the simulation, but the private messaging feature will probably come in handy when you want to get in touch with your peers and exchange trade ideas.
2. Draft order will be randomized and 12 round fantasy draft will be held where players draft their initial team.
3. After the draft players need to create a thread in the TEAM ROSTERS section of the buildateam.freeforums.org forum which includes their team roster, each player's primary and secondary position, a minute by minute breakdown of their rotation, and a short description of the type of offense they would like to run (alternatively you can pick a real team and say you want to run an offense like they currently do; this information will be important as it will be used to customize each team's coaching settings and get the team to play how the owner wants them to play).
Using the current Nets roster as an example this is what will be required from you in 1 post after you have drafted your team:
Roster:
Devin Harris: PG / SG
Jordan Farmar: PG / SG
Terrence Williams: SG / SF
Anthony Morrow : SG / SF
…
*This will be needed for your entire roster so players will play the proper position in game in the event of foul trouble, etc.
Devin Harris (35) / Jordan Farmar (13) / Ben Uzoh (0)
Terrence Williams (32) / Anthony Morrow (16) / Quinton Ross (0)
Travis Outlaw (32) / Anthony Morrow (10) / Damion James / (6)
Troy Murphy (32) / Derrick Favors (12) / Kris Humphries (4) / Sean May (0)
Brook Lopez (37) / Johan Petro (11) / Brian Zoubek (0)
Please list your starters first in your minute by minute break-down. The total minutes for each position should add up to 48.
Offense to Run: Up-tempo, focused on attacking the basket, posting up Lopez to free up 3-pt shooters, etc.
Or you could just say something along the lines of "I want to run an offense similar to what the Phoenix Suns run" and I will adjust your team setting accordingly.
5. After the draft a short free agency and trade period will be held after which the simulation will begin.
6. Every week a set amount of games will be simulated on Monday. Player, Team, statistics and standings will then be updated on Tuesday (see schedule below)
Simulation Week Outline
Monday: Games are Simulated + Stats are posted
Tuesday: Stats are posted
Wednesday: ---
Thursday: Rosters are updated
Friday: ---
Saturday: ---
Sunday: Rosters are updated
Games Per Week:
Sim Week 1: 7
Sim Week 2: 9
Sim Week 3: 11
Sim Week 4: 12
Sim Week 5: 13
Sim Week 6: 15
Sim Week 7: 15
Playoffs: TBD
7. Players are free to submit free agent bids and organize trades throughout the week, however rosters are only updated every Thursday and every Sunday. So if a trade is agreed upon Monday moring it will not be reflected on team rosters until Thursday of that week and the changes won't be apparent until the next simulation week.
8. The trade deadline occurs after Game 52 or Sim Week 5. At the trade deadline every team must state whether they are a rebuilding or contending team.
9. After the playoffs judges will assign a rating to each team based on how well they performed relative to what type of team they were (rebuilding or contending) and a winner to the build-a-team simulation will be crowned.
Rebuilding teams: Will be evaluated based on the amount of assets they have at the end of the season, the quality of those assets, etc.
Contending teams: Will be evaluated based on their regular season record, playoff performance (relative to where they ended the regular season), etc.
*Detailed criteria will be released as the simulation progresses and the final judges are determined.
The Draft:
How does it work?
At the start of the season there will be a 13 round fantasy draft. After the draft order is randomized teams will begin selecting players in a serpentine fashion (the team with the 30th pick in Round 1 has the 1st pick in Round 2, while the team with the 1st pick in Round 1 has the 30th pick in Round 2).
What players are eligible to be drafted?
Any player who:
- Played in the NBA in the 2009-2010 season.
- Was drafted in the 2010 NBA Draft.
- Signed a contract to play in the NBA for the 2010-2011 season (as of August 1, 2010).
How long does each team have to make a draft selection?
- Rounds 1-8: You will have 24 hours to make your pick.
- Rounds 9-12: You will have 20 hours to make your pick (the time frame to make a draft selection for the last few rounds may be shortened depending on how long the earlier rounds take)
What happens if a team fails to make a draft selection?
If a team does not make their draft choice in the allotted amount of time a player will be randomly assigned to their roster.
Roster Questions:
What is the minimum and maximum roster size?
All teams must cary a minimum of 13 players (maximum of 15).
What if a trade leaves me with more than 15 players?
If you are acquiring more players than you have roster spots you must waive players before the trade can go through (example: If you have 13 players under contract and then proceed to trade 1 player for 4 players you would have 16 players under contract. You must waive 1 player. The player you waive can not be one of the 3 players you traded for (though the players traded for can subsequently be waived).
When are rosters updated?
Rosters are updated every Thursday and Sunday night at approximately 10:00 pm.
Trading Players:
What rules apply when trading players?
With the exception of base year compensation and the poison pill provision (see below) all current NBA salary cap rules apply when trading players (contracts must match within 125% + $100,000, etc.)
How do base year compensation and poision pill provisions work?
For the sake of simplicity BYC and PPP will be ignored in all trades.
How much does player X make?
Each team will be provided with a roster spreadsheet which lists the current and future salaries for each of their players. The majority of salary information came from Shamsports.com. Some contracts were not listed on Shamsports and had to be input based upon reports from various media outlets.
One of my players has the wrong salary! What should I do?
Prior to beginning the simulation all players will have their salaries cross-checked with reputable sources. In the event that one of your players has an incorrect salary, contact mikhailjordan and the problem will be addressed accordingly.
I have agreed upon a trade with another team, now what?
After you have agreed upon a trade with another team all involved parties need to send a private message to mikhailjordan outlining the terms of the trade. The agreed upon trade will then be posted on the trades & transactions board under "pending trades" and will remain there until the next roster update.
What happens if a player is waived?
If a player is waived they will immediately become a free agent.
Free Agency:
How do I sign free agents?
To sign a free agent submit a private message to mikhailjordan stating which free agent you would like to sign, for how much (dollar amount and years), and what role the free agent will play for your team (this along with roster composition / available MPG will be used as a tiebreaker if two teams bid the same amount on a free agent).
I'm over the cap can I sign a free agent anyway?
Every team over the cap begins the season with:
- Mid-Level Exception: $5.765 million
- Bi-Annual Exception: $2.08 million
You may also offer any player the veteran's minimum.*
*Note when signing a player to the veteran's minimum you are not required to specify the dollar amount in your private message. Just state "VETERAN'S MINIMUM" and the contract amount will be computed for you when comparing free agent bids.
When will I know if a free agent signed with my team?
Roster updates occur every Thursday and Sunday night. On these days a list of free agent signings will be posted.
How many free agents can I bid on at a time?
You may bid on a maximum of 5 free agents at a time. If you do choose to bid upon multiple free agents you must rank them from 1 - 5 in order from most to least desired (in the event that you send multiple private messages requesting to sign free agents please try to summarize the free agents you have bid on and the order in which you have ranked them in the most recent message).
How do I rescind a bid for a free agent?
To rescind a bid for a free agent contact mikhailjordan via private message. As long as your message is received prior to the next roster update your bid will be rescinded.

Re: The Official Nets + Wolves + Friends Build-A-Team Thread
Okay I need some feedback but first let me post a schedule of events:
- Basically according to my tentative schedule I will simulate games and post stats every Monday - Tuesday.
- Every Thursday and Sunday I will update rosters with free agent signings and trades (this will give time for multiple FA bids to build up for the same players)
Now here's my thing the way I have trades working right now is that teams are free to negotiate trades amongst themselves.
Once teams agree upon a trade they then private message me (on the forum I'm going to set up). Here's where I'm not sure what to do, should I:
1. Update the rosters right then and there when I receive the private message (making the trade official)?
2. Or should I place the trade in a thread called "pending trades" where everyone will be able to see the proposed trade and only update the roster / make the trade official once it is a designated roster update day?
My thinking is this, let's say two teams were to say to agree to a trade on Monday with the next closest designated roster update on Thursday. If I was informed on Tuesday about the trade and made it Public by posting it in the pending trades thread over the next few days until Thursday, it is possible that those two teams might receive offers from other teams for the players they were planning to trade in turn leading to them receiving better offers or revising their agreed upon trade to more properly reflect the market value of the traded players.
So basically my question is during the course of the season should trade agreements be made public?
I guess alternatively I could give the trading partners the option of whether or not they want to keep the trade private or public...
(Hopefully that made sense)
