Trade KO'd By MJ (Again).......
Supposedly, there was a report that the Pacers had another deal ready to go on Wednesday but was nixed by Michael Jordan (rememeber he nixed the TJ Ford/DJ Augustin deal last year).
Trade:
IND SENDS: TJ Ford
IND RECEIVES: Erik Dampier
TOR SENDS: Jose Calderon
TOR RECEIVES: TJ Ford
CHA SENDS: Erik Dampier
CHA RECEIVES: Jose Calderon
The deal doesn't work salary wise and would have to throw in someone like D. Jones.
I would have been excited to get rid of Ford and and his attitude (and contract). Also, I wouldn't mind having Damp back for one more time (he's an expiring) and gives us size.
Thoughts?

I dont know what Dampiers contracts like but Id do it if it wasnt bad. Get us some defense and rebounds.
Pacers drafted him many moons ago to
Looks like expiring for expiring... So id do it. But why would Toronto trade Jose for TJ unless they just wanna be a factor in next summers free agency

I think Dampier's contract is even better than expiring. It's got some odd quirk that allows you to cut him late and it's non-guaranteed. His deal was effectively setup as a great trade piece. He's a link. I'm not sure what the date is that the waiving has to occur by before his contract would become guaranteed. Basically, that's the date that Charlotte would want to trade him by or just cut him themselves.

all contracts become guaranteed if you are on the roster on a certain fixed date which I think is in mid-December although it could be January. so if we sign Rolle to a typical second round rookie non-guaranteed contract, it will become guaranteed sometime before the trading deadline. same for Damp if his contract is not fully guaranteed.

Dampier could actually probably help our frontcourt and would be a solid veteran in the locker room. Too bad.

Dampiers contract is not garanteed if we got him we'd cut him and save the money! Look for the Cats to cut him unless they get some kind of boss offer for him.

^^^^^^Exactly....duh
This is way too good. Isn't Damp like 10 mill instant expiring, so wouldn't we save an additional 1.5? I saw Aldridge report this, he said it almost happened.

Michael Jordan has an even bigger bargaining chip then what Bird got Murphy for and he'll use it all the way.

Yup. Just waive him and he's gone. The best part is there's a kicker there too which makes his contract around $16-million.

If it's the traditional deal:
It doesn't work salary wise.
If we add Dahntay Jones to the mix:
IND SENDS: TJ Ford, Dahntay Jones
IND RECEIVES: Erik Dampier
TOR SENDS: Jose Calderon
TOR RECEIVES: TJ Ford
CHA SENDS: Erik Dampier
CHA RECEIVES: Jose Calderon, Dahntay Jones
Then the deal does work.
I saw somewhere also that said the deal might be revisited September 13th.

Why not cut out the pacers. This should work on sept 13
TOR SENDS TO CHA:
Jose Calderon + TPE
or
Jose Calderon + Evens
CHA SENDS TO TOR:
Erik Dampier
TOR SENDS TO CHA:

or

CHA SENDS TO TOR:
Erik Dampier

Agreed that Toronto should keep the savings, but they will need a pg, and Ford isn't a bad option.

There can't be two trade kickers in a contract. If there was a kicker, it was already exercised when Damp was traded to Charlotte. I think he's at a cap number of something like $13.5 million right now. That's roughly what he'll be.
Yeah, it could be a great trade option as it's not guaranteed fully until January, but Charlotte will have to pay him almost half his salary or so until then (which will count against the cap). I'm not sure that they're in a position (one of the highest payrolls in the NBA) to hold onto him. If they can't get a trade worked out by the end of training camp, I would assume they cut him for their own financial relief.
