Bigger Deal on the Way??

Post#1 » by zapatasblood » Fri Aug 13, 2010 11:23 pm

The Rockets traded Trevor Ariza on Wednesday and Jerome Solomon of the Houston Chronicle speculates that the move might be setting up a much bigger trade.

"The Rockets' brass will say how much they like him, blah, blah, blah, but initially Lee's biggest contribution to the team will be his salary, not his play," Solomon writes.

"Rockets general manager Daryl Morey traded a pawn for a pawn, but one pawn cost some $5 million more than the other, earning the Rockets a valuable $6.3 million trade exception.

"The flexibility that offers and the mega savings to Leslie Alexander's bank account (about $10 million in salary and luxury tax) made this a pretty sweet deal."

Just who might we be looking to get? I would like to see the Rockets keep Lee and trade off Martin. We have a lot of offense but we could stand to have some defense in the starting lineup.

I wonder what Morey could have gotten for Berkman & Oswalt... :(

Nothing for Berkman since he is old, injury prone, and a shell of his former self. I liked the Oswalt but Morey might have gotten something better

It does not say and I have yet seen any rumors on who the Rockets are targeting. I was hoping someone out there would know or have any ideas.

For the right price, anyone not named Yao.

I know, I know, I'm the same guy who ripped up a poor lil Pacers fan in the other thread for suggesting we make any moves, but this is what Morey does:

1. Acquire assets.
2. Make an unthinkable trade.
3. Profit.
4. Repeat.

Our roster, if I look at it in Morey's eyes is "Yao + assets." That's what we have. Landry was an asset on the court the past few years, but then he became an asset we could use to nab an SG that fits this team perfectly. Ariza was a defensive asset, until he became a trade piece to get a bargain-priced player who gives us around 90% of the statistical production at 10% of the cost. Lee is a young, cheap player who shoots well, knows his place, can defend three positions... mini-Battier, basically. But know what? If the time comes when his trade value exceeds his production... he's gone. That's how Morey does things. Acquire. Trade. Profit. Repeat. We're about to hit step 3, and then we'll start over again a couple months into the season.

Where is all this granger talk coming from? Can any one that keeps putting his name in their posts show an article or something that supports that 1) pacers want to trade him or 2) that we want him.

Even I could keep saying "Lebron here we come" but that would be very annoying.

Aaron/x- So we've had our month-long infatuation with Granger, now who do we turn to?

It's all a distraction. Morey is deflecting attention away from the fact that he's collected the DNA of the greatest Small Forwards in history and he combined them; growing a cloned body out of them.

Morey will become known as the Innovator of Genetic Engineering in Sports. In Morey We Trust.

I say go for Carmelo Anthony.

KiDdFrESh wrote:I usually do not post trades involving Houston but I thought I'd try one of the superstar trades. Bring on the bashing and constructive criticism!

Houston trades: Shane Battier, Aaron Brooks, Jared Jefferies, Kevin Martin
Rockets receive: Carmelo Anthony, Andre Miller, Coby Karl (waived)

Portland trades: Andre Miller, Nicolas Batum
Trailblazers receive: Shane Battier, Aaron Brooks

Denver trades: Carmelo Anthony, Coby Karl
Denver recieves: Kevin Martin, Nicolas Batum, Jared Jefferies

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Lineup for Houston:

PG: Lowry, Miller
SG: Lee, Taylor
C: Yao, Miller, Hill
SF: Anthony, Budinger
PF: Scola, Hayes, Patterson

Why for Houston? Go all-in with Carmelo Anthony.

Lineup for Portland:

PG: Brooks, Bayless, Johnson
SG: Roy, Fernandez, Williams
C: Oden, Camby, Pryzbilla
SF: Battier, Matthews Babbitt
PF: Aldrige, Pendergraph, Cunningham

Why for Portland? Get the perfect PG to put next Roy. Brooks is the leagues MIP. He can shoot, penetrate, and comes up big come playoff time. Battier is still amongst one of the premier perimeter defenders in the league and a solid glue guy.

Lineup for Denver:

PG: Billups, Lawson, Carter
SG: Martin, Smith
C: Nene, Andersen
SF: Batum, Afflalo, Balkman
PF: Martin, Harrington, Jefferies

Why for the Nuggets? Get great value for Melo. Martin is career 20+ ppg scorer and Batum has the potential to be one of the premier defenders in the league. The Nuggets also get an expiring contract in JJ. A new core of Lawson, Martin, & Batum is nice start to rebuilding.

*edit* I think Portland does too well in that trade. I think it would even out if we threw in a Jordan Hill for Rudy Fernandez swap.

That's a terrible deal for the Nuggets. Martin isn't capable of carrying a team like Carmelo, and having Batum replace Melo in their starting lineup will make their team even worse.

As much as I love Melo and want him to come play for us, how do we know he won't be a one year rental?

We include a condition in which Carmelo signs a contract extension. Otherwise, trade fails.

I think Morey waits at the back of the bar until the deadline, waiting for some sucker to get drunk and desperate. And then takes what he wants and leave before they know what ever happend.
"Morey decided in 2007 that Steve Francis was to be the "franchise player" of the Rockets only to play what... 5 games? Morey didn't think Marc Gasol was worth a look that year,"
