Depends on what you're looking for.

If you're looking for a guy that can score points then JO is your guy. But if you're looking for a guy that is a better defender and rebounder, and an overall tougher player then Ben Wallace is the guy.

And even though Wallace is older (believe no one is imagining the prime time Ben Wallace...that Ben Wallace would have been taken in the 2nd round), a 35 year old Wallace looks like he's taken care of himself a lot more than a 31 year old Jermaine Oneal to be quite honest (and JO hardly looks like the former All-Star nowadays...14 years in the NBA kinda does that to you).

Also about fit...and believe me, we knew full well JO was available (he was on our EXTENSIVE draft board...right behind Ben Wallace) but Wallace just made more sense.

1. the Heat was already loaded with offensively strong players (20+ppg or near 20ppg guys at 4 of the 5 starting positions)...taking the better defensive player (Wallace) made more sense there.

2. the Heat has one relatively inexperienced spot in their starting lineup and that's Serge Ibaka at C. Taking a guy that has a load of championship experience in Wallace makes more sense.

3. in many ways Serge Ibaka has the potential to be the next Ben Wallace type player. Who better to be a mentor to Serge than Ben Wallace himself. JO as a mentor? Can't see it...too selfish and different type of game.

4. Wallace's toughness should also help complement Lamarcus Aldridge when both are on the floor a whole lot better than JO can.

As far as "not close to being"? Wallace averaged 8.9rpg and 1.2bpg in 28mpg last season. Oneal, 6.9rpg, 1.4bpg in about the same number of minutes and nearly the same number of games. Oneal scored a lot more points but flubbed completely in the playoffs. Would Wallace have pulled an Oneal come playoff time? And my team is expecting to go deep into the playoffs...so wouldn't we want to go with a guy that has proven he's got no problem with helping his team winning playoff games?

Yes, taking JO would have been the sexier pick but if you actually REALLY THOUGHT ABOUT it when judging this team, Ben Wallace makes MORE sense and makes the Heat a better team as well as being a better investment down the road (see comment about Wallace, Ibaka and Aldridge).

Jermaine O'Neal $5,765,000 $6,226,200

Ben Wallace $2,080,000 $2,246,400

Amir Johnson's contract is bad though. But I guess out of those 3, JO can make a layup consistently.

However, the playoff series against Boston hurts his stock.

Jermaine O'Neal is a good defender and still a solid offensive player. Making the MLE isn't a bad thing when the choices are Jermaine for 6 and Wallace for 2. Wallace isn't Jermaine and its always a good thing to have a big man that can give you something on both ends of the floor. When the salary is that low for the three players, there really isn't a reason to choose the other 2 over Jermaine.

Sure there is. See my explanation. Dude...if all it takes to build a team is to take the best player then they wouldn't be paying GM's all that money (you just need Isiah Thomas...he always managed to get the best talent out of a deal, forget about fit or team building). It's called about fit and need and what role you want each player to have on a team.

Don't you worry about Amir. He has his place on our team.

Yep. Amir Johnson is younger than JO (23 years old compared to 31 years old). His 4.8rpg in 17.7 mpg translates into roughly 7.5rpg per 28 minutes (what JO played last season). So not hard to argue that Amir Johnson is a better rebounder (or at least comparable to JO). Same goes for his blocks per game (roughly about the same in the same number of minutes). His ppg in 28 minutes comes out to be around 11ppg (or just a lil off of what JO averaged last season). Johnson is more uptempo now than JO is now. It's just about fit and need.

This deal is contingent on if the guy who I want is still on the board. It will only become official after I get the guys name I will sent to a mod and LeBron2NY2010.

The Spurs would have taken Amir over JO anyday of the week due to his age and potential. As far as JO/Big Ben, I think it totally depends on who they are surrounded with. For the Heat, Ben Wallace makes infinitely more sense due to the players already chosen. Not that JO is an awful option, but Wallace on the Heat seems like a perfect fit.

Looking to move slightly up from 219. Will give up 336 for a 13th round pick.

This.

To add to that, he's due for a breakout season, and will be starting with Bosh gone. Also, If you look at his season splits, as a starter he averaged 17.6 ppg, 6rpg, and 1bpg.

I will be around most of the day and do not pick again until #259. If anyone doesn't think they can make their pick and wants to send me their board I can make your pick for you to speed this up.

bish1324@aol.com

Just let me know that you sent me your board and I can help make your pick if needed.
