My 5th Keeper...Darren Collison?

Post#1 » by DNYLkiller » Sat Aug 14, 2010 10:04 pm

16 team 9 cat roto. Positions: PG,SG,G,G,SF,PF,F,F,C,C,UTIL,B,B,B,B

Each team is keeping five players with no regards to draft position. My stable of possible keepers @ the end of last year was:

Dwight Howard (lock)
Dwyane Wade (lock)
Derrick Rose
Jeff Green
Greg Oden
Rashard Lewis
Tony Parker
Darren Collison
James Harden

Can I keep Darren Collison? God dammit, I want to so bad.

If i were you i would also defenitly keep Rose.

I would then decide between 2 of these 3:

Darren Collison
Jeff Green
Tony Parker

Greg Oden has been in the stable since his rookie year and I am having a hard time letting go of him

Do you want "potential" or do you want proven worth?

Oden has done nothing, Collison is a star.

Let Oden go.

Howard
Wade
Rose
Collison
Oden

Locked down the C and PG position for years to come. Wing players are a dime a dozen. Jeff Green is 1000% easier to replace then Oden.

I'm going to take the flip side of WB's position. I basically agree with him but I think you are right to consider keeping Oden. There is always one guy who is incredibly unlucky. Years ago it was Big Z. Maybe now it's Oden. Sure, he could be a guy who is never able to play a season. But he could also be a guy who has a real rough multi-season patch like Big Z did, and then turns in a number of strong years.

I keep:
Howard
Wade
Green
Oden
and then either Rose or Collison

With Rose you have to ask is his game ever going to develop into a strong fantasy guy. And with Collison you have to ask are his assists going to go down if he both moves out of NO (whose scorer is notorious for giving out extra assists) and to IND (where he has less to work with to get assists).

I'd probably go with Collison, though. I like Rose the nba player but not Rose the fantasy player.

I'm going to take the flip side of FLoppy's flip side.

Oden = Z? I think that's your answer right there. Z was never a star player, and he rarely put up dominant numbers. An average fantasy center at best.

Collison in NO actually had LESS to work with. I mean, all he really had was Marcus Thornton and David West. Now he's in Indiana where he has just as much if not more talent to "assist" to. The PAcers actually have a better team than most people give them credit for. All they've really needed is a point man, a floor general, to put it together. Now they've got him.

Drop collison at your own peril...and keep oden for the same...

No, I only was comparing Oden to Z in fragility. Z had injury issues that I'm sure scared off many fantasy players back in the day. But then he started turning in very healthy years.

I'm not trying to compare their fantasy value when healthy.

I'd go this way too.

I would keep:
Howard
Wade
Oden
Collison
Green

Collison will give you value everywhere and only hurt you in TO's, but with Howard and Wade on your team you're going to suck in TO's anyway.

I don't know how your league works, but if you can trade in the offseason before naming keepers, I would try to package Howard + Rose for another keeper.

I decided to drop Oden. Too many uncertainties. Sigh.
