You are like a 6-years-older version of me. My wife and I just celebrated our 14th anniversary. We were married 5 years before having our first kid. Our oldest is now 9. (We have a 7 year old and a 4 year old as well.) And I even work out a lot. (Though I try to avoid insane things like running 100 miles at one time.)

Yeah, but Jimmy's a bleeding-heart liberal and you're....not. :D

To be fair, dobro has a bit of a libertarian streak in him. It's not like he's Lopii, Pine or Spence.

I'm developing that streak too, nate. I am coming to the conclusion that while I may actually agree with a lot of liberal theory on government intervention, the practice never even resembles the theory to the point where we'd be better off without it in the first place. My wife works at the Fed Govt and the inefficiency and bureaucracy disgusts me. WHat good are ideas if they implementation is going to be so badly bastardized?

No matter, I still want to buy you and Dat drinks the next time I'm in Ohio. Nothing on the calendar, but I'll let you guys know.

I'm also completely disillusioned by the neocons in the Republican Party. I'm firmly in the camp of guys like Ron Paul and Paul Ryan. I think we'll see a coalition of Libertarians and Tea Party fiscal conservatives take over for a while. I just hope they can put our fiscal house in order before the war mongers and religious zealots take over.

Posted that for Ed Wood and others who appreciate a good beat down.

I will be very interested to see if he tries to sue Roger Huerta. After the guy gets prosecuted for knocking the woman out ... before he got knocked out, that is. It will be interesting how this plays out.

Dana White has already condoned the righteous beatdown BTW.

Yeah I'd had that flipped my way and while I'm not a big vigilante justice guy without any sort of context, and probably even with context (assuming the woman wasn't a Wendigo who'd eaten the dude's family or something) it's hard to feel bad for a guy who just Jermaine O'Nealed a woman.

As far as I know Dana condones anything MMA-related that doesn't involve the UFC. That he didn't make a joke about Bellator and street fighting or something is the bigger upset. But this is just one of many examples of the applicability of MMA skills in the administration of justice.

edited for oh my god that not was the single most important word in the entire post and it was absent.

short version - read Bacevich's latest essay in the Huff Post
on 'the end of military history' and how military victories
have lost their utility.

Just caught the last few minutes of game 6 of the Lakers vs OKC game on NBA TV, I'd forgotten how-close the Thunder were to forcing a game 7. Great game.

Some are going to be martryed.

This is a sad story.

6 Americans on medical mission killed in Afghanistan
German, Briton and two Afghans also slain in Taliban ambush on Christian charity workers

KABUL, Afghanistan — Six Americans and two other foreigners on a medical mission were shot and killed by the Taliban who ambushed their vehicles in a remote part of northern Afghanistan, a charity said Saturday.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told The Associated Press in Pakistan that they killed the foreigners because they were "spying for the Americans" and "preaching Christianity."

I am sorry to hear that those slain didn't listen to the villagers that warned them of the danger with the route they tried to take.

I have a friend that recently returned from Afghanistan. His life and many others were spared by what had to have been a miracle. Won't share specifics but to say as I ate w1 Tith my friend on his return he said more than a couple times, "You might not live long. Enjoy your life."

I hope the families of the optometrist and others slain with the relief team enjoyed the time they had with their loved ones. For however long I am privileged to live and breathe, I will enjoy mine to the fullest. Love one another would be my message to all. (I am grateful for all my loved ones).

I thank God my friend made it back. I am happy for his wife and kids, and for the families and others that came back okay physically. I pray for an end to the war in Afghanistan.

Bryce Harper's education?

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=t ... igns081610

The contract is worth $9.9 million over five years guaranteed, the largest ever for a drafted position player. It includes a signing bonus of $6.25 million, along with additional bonuses of $500,000 per season if Harper is on the Nationals’ roster in 2014 and 2015. The Nationals also agreed to pay for the rest of Harper’s education.

Dear parents of Bryce Harper,

Nine-point-nine MILLION guaranteed is enough to pay for that boy's doctorate. PhD of MLB! Asking for the Nats to cover his education costs after they're giving up 10Mil, at least, is like insisting upon a free breath mint after spending 5 years lodging free at the world's most expensive resort.

Something tells me they do not understand GUARANTEED contract.

Is there any way to avoid the "delivery fee" for Wizards tickets?

The roomies are getting me Wiz tickets for my birthday and I don't want them paying $15 for delivery charges.

A lot of times you can avoid ticket charges if you buy from the box office. Another option is buying on craigslist.

^^^ Do you know if ticketmaster charges for delivery? Is it possible to circumvent the charge by ordering the tickets and picking them up at the Verizon Center?
