So far this offseason has had some highlights of success but for the most part has not been that succesful.

Our secondary is the one area where we have definitly improved. Not that it is great but it is noticebly better than last year

cb Bodden
cb Kelly
SF's Smith, Bullocks, kennedy

That being said weve lost;
a pro bowl DT Shaun Rogers and replaced him with an injury prone, overweight average DT. I dont care if Marinelli hated rogers, the cover 2 is dependent on a push up front and you have one of the best DT in the league and you ride his a** out of town for a guy who has a similar overweight body and is an average at best, but works hard. A bad day for Shaun Rogers is a normal/good day for Darby. To note Darby is a former tampa guy, which Ill address later.

RT Damien Woody
After switching to RT Woody went back to being the player he was for the colts. He was by far our best OL on what was already a weak OL and we could not afford his loss and so far has not been replaced. The only OL signed so far is Corey Hulsy. Who? Exactly. Former Oakland Raider who didnt play football at all last year.

RB TJ Duckett
Our Running game was pathetic last year mostly due to a horribly constructed offensive line and an offensive coordinator who could give 2 S***'* about the run. Duckett had solid performances when given the chance and would be the perfect power back for this supposed new "power" scheme

Key additions
Leigh Bodden cb
Dwight Smith Safety
and my sleeper Michael Gaines - I think this kid has a chance to do some things if we keep Roy and have him and calvin on the wings with furrey/mcdonald in the slot, Gains will have the opportunity to roam the middle underneath and catch some balls.

The FA philosphy
Kowolski recently wrote an article stating the Lions understand the importance of building through the draft, the problem is they obviously suck doing it. Most of the good teams are built through the draft and fill small holes with FA and /or try to get the big catch. Im glad the Lions atleast know good teams are built through the draft, thats atleast comforting. But our FA signings in my opinion have been worse than our draft. As is our team is built around former/current Lions trash, former St. Louis trash, and former buccaneer trash. Now dont get me wrong Mcdonald and Furrey were solid performers but the system that allowed them to do those things is gone and there is not a spot for both of them on this team. The only thing I like is that the incoming players know the system which is especially good for the cover 2. That being said these incoming players who know the system have been career backups or below average starters and they come into a system that will last a season and a half then something new. Theres no stabilityl. Theres no standards. Just a head jackass(that should be legal to say) in charge then new commanders every couple seasons. I love this team but man I hate this team.

Peace sorry for the rant

So Randy Smith is running the Lions now. Pick one team and purge them.

ha, no call was needed. But there is more...ill tell u about later

anywho, nice rant, very on. i think our team is worse now than it was at this same time a year ago, and we are virtually destined to be 6-10 for the next 5 seasons.

I dont get why we dont stockpile picks and totally rebuild with young players. this team is not going to win a superbowl, so start over.

I really respect how Houston and NY have done things. Houston has drafted upside defensive players in the last drafts (Williams, Ryans, Okoye), acquired a good young QB in Schaub, and signs good veteran players where they need tham (Ahman Green questionable). The Jets decided to build along the offensive line (Ferguson, Mangold) and the defense (Revis), and grabbed Thomas Jones for nothing. again, the right strategy.

We pick skill position players one after the other (Rogers, Williams, Williams, Jones) and show loyalty to old, diminishing players we have previously coached. ugh.

From a players standpoint I think were about even maybe a little worse than we were a week ago, but we'll have to wait and see what happens in the draft, I think we'll be busy.

I do think our new offensive strategy will help us, but like I said, I dont know if we have the talent to do anything. The way i see it we have an equal chance of going 9-7 as we do going 6-10.
