The Nats are now 31-27 at home and 20-40 on the road. They make their way to division-leading Atlanta now down 18 games in the standings.
Scott Olsen has been whacked around lately (now a 5.11 ERA) and gets the call against rookie Mike Minor, the seventh pick in last years' draft. The lefty looked great in the minors, and made his debut last week in Houston, a no-decision.
Hard to get motivated to play, but I guess the franchise got a shot in the arm last night...

The pitching satff and defense needs a shot in the arm.
Basketball is driven by three principles:
1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

Re: Nats in Atlanta
Interesting times for the Nats. They get smashed 10-2 but after five the game is scoreless. Nats score their two in the sixth to take the lead, but then Olsen is taken out by Riggleman after allowing a solo shot and putting two runners on.
Olsen was not happy being taken out having thrown only 70 pitches, up 2-1, and only allowing five baserunners the whole game. You could see him yelling under his glove as he left, and he apparently exited without speaking to reporters.
It really was a premature hook from Riggleman. You can understand why Olsen was upset. Would have felt that way regardless of what happened after. Which was Peralta, Slaten, and Stammen got shelled. 10-2 Braves. The bullpen has been a strength for DC, but you have to trust your starter a little to bounce back that early, or you will wear your pen out anyway.
In other news, it appears Josh Willingham is done for the year, which will open some playing time versus lefties up for the completely undeserving, off steroids, Kevin Mench. Probably a good move. If Hammer needs surgery, why would you wait?

Re: Nats in Atlanta
Nats win game three to avoid the sweep. John Lannan does look better--he gets the win. Nyjer Morgan returns from the DL and Wilson Ramos makes his debut with the Nats, filling in for Wil Nieves, who is with his wife giving birth.
Morgan gets two hits and Willie Harris with the two-run bomb. Harris will get a good chance to raise his average over .200 for the year now with Willingham out and more ABs on the way...
