Kevin Durant BYC
Can someone please tell me why KD is a base year player? I thought BYC only applies to teams that are over the cap, and the Thunder are currently under the cap?

Re: Kevin Durant BYC
Durant is still in the last year of his rookie scale contract, so right now he falls under the "poison pill provision," although I'm not sure if this is still in effect when the team is under the salary cap. Regardless, he's not a BYC player just yet, because his extension doesn't kick in until the 2011-2012 season. Next season, assuming the Thunder don't take on a ton of contracts this year, he most likely won't be a BYC player because the Thunder will be below the cap.

The Thunder should have some major cap holds next summer (Jeff Green, Nick Collison, Morris Peterson, Nenad Kristic, Daequan Cook), which depending on what they do, will put them over the salary cap.
But why does it matter, the Thunder are not going to trade Kevin Durant.

Yes, good point. I wasn't factoring in the cap holds for Collison, Peterson, and Krstic, which should be substantial.
