Ryan Gomes breaks down his game

Gomes could be Clips' small solution
Have the Clippers finally solved their elusive small forward problem?

"[The Clippers] aren't looking for someone dominant at this position," Gomes said. "Sure, if I average 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists, that'll be wonderful. But I feel like my best quality is my knowledge of the game. I don't think I'm going to wow you athletically, but I can dabble in a little bit of everything."

"At the 3, there are some nights where it might not work in my favor," Gomes said. "But Carmelo [Anthony], I think I can guard him. I can guard guys like [Al] Thornton. I think I can do a solid job on [Paul] Pierce. I can guard guys who face up and attack you one-on-one. [Ron] Artest is a perfect matchup for me.

"Where I have limitations is with guys who get their shots by running off screens. [Kevin] Durant. A guy like Jason Richardson is tough for me."

"I'm thinking about where the defensive rotations are coming from, and what shots are going to be there, like, two seconds from now," Gomes said.

He described how that dynamic manifested itself in Minnesota.

"I'll think, if I go back to Al [Jefferson], they'll double from the top with Corey [Brewer]'s man. So now I'll dump it into Al, who'll kick it back to me and I'll swing it Corey. Meanwhile, it's like, 'You had that shot first!' But I'm automatically looking at the swing because I'm thinking about pre-rotations and where guys are going to be instead of saying, 'I'm in control now.'"

"Shoot when you're open. Pass when you're not. Play defense. Rebound," Gomes said. "Those are my responsibilities."

Somebody email this post to Donald Sterling:

Clippers owner unimpressed w/ team's summer

Clippers owner Donald Sterling doesn't sound too impressed with his team's offseason additions, saying, "If I really called the shots we wouldn't have signed Gomes and what's the other guy's name?"

Sterling didn't stop there. "They told me if we built a new practice facility we'd attract all the top players in the game," he said. "I guess I should have doubled the size of this place. I swear to you, I never heard of these guys." This confirms the image of Sterling as a massively out-of-touch NBA owner...and for the record, the "other guy" is named Randy Foye. I'm hoping/thinking that Gomes will be "adequate" at the sf. If he just performs to his career numbers, that would be more than acceptable. We have enough talent at the other positions to be successful------no team has a top-tier player at every position. We have depth at the sf as well; maybe Aminu cand defend those type of players that give Gomes trouble, and maybe Blakely can gaurd the smaller/quicker sf. Anyway, good article and I'm looking forward to see what transpires this season.

I think that Gomes is a good addition and I wish Sterling would just sell the team. I know we are all waiting on the day it finally happens.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I really don't get Sterling. He never knows the players and just recently finally showed a desire to maybe win. He should just sell the team. he wants to make money but at the rate we are going he will continue to not make as much as the owner should be getting. Why can't we have an owner like Mark Cuban? Or why can't Clipper Darrell win the lottery and buy the Clippers?

Gomes is a nice player to have off the bench.
